the majority would pick the former according to a Pew Research Center <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/global\/2021\/04\/22\/many-in-western-europe-and-u-s-want-economic-changes-as-pandemic-continues\/?utm_source=AdaptiveMailer&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=21-04-22%20Economic%20Grievances%20GEN%20DISTR&amp;org=982&amp;lvl=100&amp;ite=8384&amp;lea=1805607&amp;ctr=0&amp;par=1&amp;trk=\" class=\"icon none\">survey<\/a> published on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p> Some 75% of American adults indicated that it is \u201cvery important\u201d for the government to provide more job and skills training for workers. <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       That\u2019s more than twice the share of Americans (31%) who view universal income as \u201cvery important\u201d, the nationally representative survey of over 1,000 adults found.<\/p>\n<p>Universal basic income, regarded bluntly as \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/study-employment-rose-among-californians-part-of-free-money-experiment\" class=\"icon none\">free money<\/a>\u201d by some critics, is a public program whereby every qualifying adult receives a check on a regular basis.\u00a0 Countries including Finland and Denmark have experimented with the concept. <\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" American household received $5,500 from three different rounds of stimulus checks, according to the Economic Security Project,\u00a0 a progressive anti-poverty nonprofit co-founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a><br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.55%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       co-founder Chris Hughes.<\/p>\n<p> The checks collectively kept millions of Americans out of poverty and enabled many more to keep up with their normal spending habits even while unemployed, research shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This week, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti\u00a0included a version of universal basic income as part of his budget proposal. <\/p>\n<p>The $24 million proposal, which needs to be <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved by his City Council, provide $1,000 a month to 2,000 households. Regardless, it doesn\u2019t appear to have enough support in the Senate to pass, even through a simple majority.<\/p>\n<p>However, Biden, in his recently unveiled $2.3 trillion infrastructure proposal, is calling for $40 billion to \u201censure comprehensive services for workers, who have lost jobs through no fault of their own, to gain new skills and to get career services they need with in-demand jobs,\u201d a fact sheet of the proposal states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s also calling for another $48 billion in funds to create as many as 2 million \u201cnew registered apprenticeships slots\u201d aimed specifically at \u201cstrengthening the pipeline for more women and people of color\u201d to succeed in infrastructure jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Finland, meanwhile, getting money from the government with no strings attached made Finnish people happier, but it didn\u2019t improve their chances of getting a job, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/la%20mayor%20and%20universal\" class=\"icon none\">a 2019 report found.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., buzz around universal basic income grew after several Democratic contenders for the 2020 presidential nomination touted<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2018\/10\/22\/17999558\/cory-booker-baby-bonds\" class=\"icon none\">\u00a0versions of UBI<\/a>.
