You remember him, don\u2019t you?<\/p>\n

Twenty-three-year-old winger, righthanded shot, Carolina first-rounder acquired last year in a trade, 6-4, 230, drives to the net, has intermittent issues in his own end of the ice and away from the puck.<\/p>\n

Hasn\u2019t played since April 3.<\/p>\n

That Julien Gauthier.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are only so many times you can talk to him about the situation we\u2019re in,\u201d head coach David Quinn said before Gauthier\u2019s 12th straight healthy scratch and 22nd overall would come against the Sabres at the Garden on Sunday. \u201cHe\u2019s worked really hard, there has been talk about getting him in, but at the end of the day he\u2019s just got to keep being the professional he\u2019s been and work as hard as he has off the ice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gauthier, who has recorded two goals and eight points in 27 game<\/a>s, slid down the right-wing ladder once Vitali Kravtsov was deemed ready. They both were in the lineup for Kravtsov\u2019s NHL debut on April 3 in Buffalo while Brett Howden was on the COVID protocol list, but that was it for the Quebec native, who came out of training camp as the right wing on the unit with Alexis Lafreniere and Filip Chytil.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, I\u2019m sure he doesn\u2019t like it. Why would a player like it sitting as long as he has?\u201d Quinn asked rhetorically. \u201cBut with all the young players we have and the way some of the veterans are playing \u2014 guys we might target as who could come out of the lineup \u2014 we just don\u2019t think that\u2019s the thing to do right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not easy for him but he\u2019s handled it well. I have a lot of respect for him for the way he\u2019s handled it. It\u2019s a tough situation but he\u2019s done a good job managing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quinn reported that Jacob Trouba, who is believed to have sustained a concussion on that Matt Martin first-period check at the Coliseum on April 20, \u201ckeeps getting better every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The coach not only did not rule out No. 8\u2019s potential return at some point this season but twice categorized the defenseman as \u201cday-to-day.\u201d<\/p>\n
