Not only because of the excitement of Hollywood being gathered together again \u2014 but because one nominee won\u2019t be around to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>Chadwick Boseman, who\u2019s nominated and expected to win Oscar 2021\u2019s Best Actor for his role in \u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/08\/28\/black-panther-star-chadwick-boseman-dead-of-cancer-at-43\/\">died of colon cancer<\/a> in August at age 43. When the \u201cBlack Panther\u201d star won the Golden Globe in February, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/04\/17\/how-chadwick-bosemans-widow-is-coping-with-2021-awards-season\/\">his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward<\/a>, accepted it for him, saying, \u201cI don\u2019t have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many beloved nominees \u2014 actors, screenwriters, directors, composers and more \u2014 have died before their Oscars ceremony, and 16 have won. The first actor to ever win an Oscar posthumous was the brilliant Australian Peter Finch, who played the unhinged TV personality Howard Beale in 1976\u2019s \u201cNetwork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finch had a distinguished career alongside entertainment royalty. His mentor was Laurence Olivier, and he starred in \u201cOthello\u201d opposite Orson Welles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also led a sometimes-scandalous life. In addition to his three marriages, he had an affair with singer Shirley Bassey.<\/p>\n<p>One night while promoting \u201cNetwork,\u201d Finch went on \u201cThe Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.\u201d Afterward, he headed to the the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he dropped dead of a heart attack in the lobby. He was 60.<\/p>\n<p>The Best Actor category in 1977 was stacked with talent: Robert De Niro in \u201cTaxi Driver,\u201d William Holden in \u201cNetwork\u201d and Sylvester Stallone in \u201cRocky.\u201d When Finch\u2019s name was announced, Stallone looked flabbergasted, going as far as to not <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>laud the win, put off that his breakout role didn\u2019t net him an award. They wrote the song \u201cPrince Ali\u201d from there, often while the lyricist wore his \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d sweatshirt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He died on March 3, 1991, at age 40. He\u2019s the only performer to ever achieve that feat.<\/p>\n<p>Dean hit it big in 1955\u2019s \u201cRebel Without a Cause\u201d \u2014 which came out a month after he died in a car crash in California at age 24. The actor then scored two acting nods: for \u201cEast of Eden\u201d in 1956 and \u201cGiant\u201d in 1957.<\/p>\n<p>He lost both, but the heartthrob cemented his place in Hollywood history.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jeanne_Eagels_1930\"><\/span><strong>Jeanne Eag<\/strong>els, 1930<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The first deceased person to be nominated for an Oscar \u2014 for the academy\u2019s second annual awards \u2014 was Jeanne Eagels, who died tragically at 39 years old. You see, when Russell won Best Original Score for \u201cLimelight,\u201d along with co-writers Charlie Chaplin and Raymond Rasch, the man had already been dead for 18 years.<\/p>\n<p>And the film itself was first released 21 years before the out-of-nowhere win in 1973.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How\u2019d that happen?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After \u201cLimelight\u201d opened to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly positive reviews in New York in 1952, Chaplin left the US to promote the film, only to be denied re-entry due to his supposed communist sympathies. Thanks to anti-commie fervor, most theaters outside of a few on the East Coast refused to play the film. In order to be nominated for an Oscar, a movie must play in the Los Angeles area for at least seven days.
