When the Oscars kick off Sunday night, they\u2019ll be poised to make history.<\/p>\n

Actors of color could sweep all four major acting awards, with the late \u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom\u201d star Chadwick Boseman \u2014 already a posthumous Golden Globe and SAG Awards winner for his heartbreaking role \u2014\u00a0all but expected to grab the gold over Best Actor nominees Anthony Hopkins (\u201cThe Father\u201d), Riz Ahmed (\u201cSound of Metal\u201d), Steven Yeun (\u201cMinari\u201d) and Gary Oldman (\u201cMank\u201d).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, his \u201cMa Rainey\u201d co-star, SAG Award winner Viola Davis, is a front-runner for the other biggie \u2014 the Best Actress statue \u2014 alongside Andra Day (who won the Golden Globe for her role in \u201cThe United States vs. Billie Holiday\u201d), Vanessa Kirby (\u201cPieces of a Woman\u201d), Frances McDormand (\u201cNomadland\u201d) and Carey Mulligan (\u201cPromising Young Woman\u201d).<\/p>\n

But even before then, the competition was already hitting strides, with Steven Yeun becoming the first Asian-American nominated for Best Actor for his role in \u201cMinari.\u201d In addition, \u201cNomadland\u201d filmmaker Chlo\u00e9 Zhao was the first Asian-American woman to be nominated for Best Director. She and \u201cPromising Young Woman\u201d director Emerald Fennell also were the first two women to be nominated in the category in the same year.<\/p>\n

The 93rd annual Academy Awards, originally scheduled for Feb. 28, were postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.\u00a0The show will broadcast from the Dolby Theatre and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.<\/p>\n
