Who says you can\u2019t win for losing?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Glenn Close made Oscars 2021 history Sunday \u2014 just not in the way the seasoned actor and eight-time Academy Award nominee probably expected to.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After losing Best Supporting Actress honors to\u00a0\u201cMinari\u201d star Yuh-Jung Youn at the 93rd Academy Awards, Close, 74, became the most Oscar-nominated female actor with absolutely no wins.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For her polarizing performance (it also scored a Razzie nom) as \u201cMamaw\u201d in \u201cHillbilly Elegy,\u201d Close earned her a record-setting eighth nomination from the Academy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Historical note: Her \u201cmost losses\u201d ties her with legendary actor Peter O\u2019 Toole, who was also nominated \u2014 and snubbed \u2014 for his big screen showings eight times.\u00a0O\u2019Toole did, however, score an honorary Oscar shortly before he died at 81 in 2013.<\/p>\n

Despite her loss this year, Close still won the night.<\/p>\n

How?\u00a0Well, by doing \u201cDa Butt,\u201d of course.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When asked by comedia<\/a>n, actor and Oscars co-host Lil\u2019 Rel Howery, 41, to play an Oscars-theme<\/a>d game<\/a> of name-that-tune, Close immediately identified oldies twerk jam \u201cDa Butt,\u201d by Washington D.C. go-go music band Experience Unlimited.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a classic song,\u201d the sliver-haired diva announced much to the audience\u2019s surprise.<\/p>\n

She went on to share some fun facts about the hit, during which she noted that Academy Award-winning director Spike Lee featured the booty-bouncing classic in his 1988 film \u201cSchool Daze.\u201d<\/p>\n

Close then stole the show when she stood up and twerked to the song in her Giorgio Armani dress<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oh, what a night!<\/p>\n

In Close\u2019s case, her missed chances to add the little gold-plated man to her collection of Golden Globes, Emmys and Tony awards date back to 1983. <\/p>\n

That was the year she first contended in Oscar\u2019s Best Supporting Actress category for\u00a0\u201cThe World According to Garp.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

She later was nominated in the same category for \u201cThe Big Chill\u201d and \u201cThe Natural,\u201d but lost each time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And although she famously warned that she \u201cwon\u2019t be ignored\u201d in 1987 twisted romance thriller \u201cFatal Attraction,\u201d Close\u2019s lead actress chops were overlooked for Oscars honors for her work in that film as well as in \u201cDangerous Liaisons\u201d and \u201cAlbert Nobbs.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also was close to earning Best Actress bragging rights for her role in 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Wife.\u201d However, she ultimately lost to \u201cThe Favourite\u201d star Olivia Colman.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
