{"id":235859,"date":"2021-04-26T20:03:34","date_gmt":"2021-04-26T17:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/how-beavers-caused-a-canadian-town-to-lose-internet\/"},"modified":"2021-04-26T20:03:34","modified_gmt":"2021-04-26T17:03:34","slug":"how-beavers-caused-a-canadian-town-to-lose-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/how-beavers-caused-a-canadian-town-to-lose-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"#How beavers caused a Canadian town to lose internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#How beavers caused a Canadian town to lose internet<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/beavers-003.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Leave it to beavers to force one rural Canadian community further off the grid by gnawing through the town\u2019s fiber-optic cable, leaving about 900 residents without internet or mobile cellular access.<\/p>\n<p>In a \u201cvery bizarre and uniquely Canadian turn of events,\u201d one or more of the pesky critters had caused \u201cextensive\u201d damage to the municipal internet cable in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, prompting an outage that started on Saturday around 4 a.m., the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/beaver-internet-down-tumbler-ridge-1.6001594\">Candian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team located a nearby dam, and it <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears the beavers dug underground alongside the creek to reach our cable, which is buried about three feet underground and protected by a 4.5-inch thick conduit,\u201d wrote Liz Sauv\u00e9, a spokesperson for Canada\u2019s Telus Mobility, in a statement on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beavers first chewed through the conduit before chewing through the cable in multiple locations,\u201d said Sauv\u00e9, who believes the woodchucks had intended to use Telus\u2019 equipment to build themselves a lodge, as beavers are wont to do. <\/p>\n<p>So determined to dredge up good materials that the natural-born builders were able to munch through circuitry usually buried underground. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeavers have chewed through our fibre cable at multiple points, causing extensive damage,\u201d Sauv\u00e9 added <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/earther.gizmodo.com\/internet-outage-in-canada-blamed-on-beavers-gnawing-thr-1846760780\">in a separate statement to Gizmodo<\/a>. \u201cIt appears the beavers dug underground alongside the creek to reach our cable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Web and cellphone service was fully restored by 6:30 p.m. local time on Sunday after technicians worked \u201caround the clock\u201d to investigate the damage, made even more inaccessible due to freezing weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>These relentless rodents are known for wantonly wreaking havoc on woodland communities. Their insatiable drive to dam up waterways has led to flooding, while also taking down trees at alarming rates. These are, of course, the perils of sharing a habitat with the industrious creatures. <\/p>\n<p>But in regions where beavers haven\u2019t historically roamed, their fervent nesting has recently become cause for global concern. Last year, a report by environmental researchers revealed that beavers who have recently moved into the warming Arctic are ushering in climate change by making their home on thawing permafrost, where <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature14338\">billions of tons of ancient carbon dioxide<\/a> \u2014 twice as much as in the atmosphere, currently \u2014 and other greenhouse gases are stored.\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
