But it didn\u2019t quite work out that way:\u00a0<strong>Anthony Hopkins<\/strong> won for his work in <em>The Father<\/em>, and since Hopkins wasn\u2019t there to receive the award in person, the show came to an abrupt and confusing end.<\/p>\n<p>Now an ABC executive has commented on the chaos of the Oscars 2021 ending, citing Soderbergh and company\u2019s \u201ccalculated risk\u201d of shifting the categories. Plus, he sounded off about that unexpected dance from <strong>Glenn Close<\/strong> and how the Oscar Trivia segment was originally supposed to be a karaoke segment.<span id=\"more-668428\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"That_Chaotic_Ending\"><\/span>That Chaotic Ending<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/news\/oscars-order-da-butt-glenn-close-in-memoriam-1234960635\/\">Variety<\/a> caught up with\u00a0ABC\u2019s <strong>Rob Mills<\/strong>, the executive VP of un<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ed and alternative entertainment at Walt Disney Television, to talk about last night\u2019s ceremony, including the decision to switch things up throughout the telecast. As Mills pointed out, \u201cit wasn\u2019t just the final categories \u2013 the whole show was mixed up.\u201d That was purposeful, he says, in order to give the audience a feeling of \u201cWow, I really don\u2019t know what\u2019s coming next.\u201d<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->That certainly happened in the show\u2019s final minutes, when Hopkins ended up pulling out a win for Best Actor, despite not even being in attendance in Los Angeles or any of the remote filming locations. (His <em>The Father<\/em> co-star <strong>Olivia Colman<\/strong> was reportedly supposed to accept the award on his behalf.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was not meant to end on somebody who was not present,\u201d Mills said of that shocking moment. \u201cIt was a calculated risk, that I think still paid off because everybody was talking about it. Similarly, nobody wants the wrong envelope to happen, like it did three years ago, but everyone was talking about it. I think some people thought maybe they missed some awards. \u2018Why is best picture early?\u2019 or, \u2018What\u2019s happening, this is crazy,\u2019 almost like, \u2018How can this possibly happen? Best picture has to end it!\u2019 Some people were upset, some people loved it and that was really the point that there was no apathy.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"We_Almost_Had_Oscars_Karaoke_Glenn_Closes_%E2%80%9CDa_Butt%E2%80%9D_Dance_Surprised_Everyone\"><\/span>We Almost Had Oscars Karaoke; Glenn Close\u2019s \u201cDa Butt\u201d Dance Surprised Everyone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>During one of Frances McDormand\u2019s speeches, she joked about wanting a karaoke to happen on stage. Elsewhere in that Variety interview, Mills mentioned that the idea was being actually seriously considered by the producers. \u201cThere was talk of a karaoke bit that couldn\u2019t happen just because of microphones and things like that, you couldn\u2019t do it,\u201d he said. \u201cI think that\u2019s what morphed into the Oscar trivia bit, which ended up being for the best, obviously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That segment led to the viral moment of Glenn Close shouting out \u201cDa Butt\u201d and memorably standing up to shake her ass in the aisle. As expected, the \u201cDa Butt\u201d back and forth between Close and Lil Rel Howery was scripted, but it turns out the dance was an impromptu thing. \u201cIt was certainly something nobody expected,\u201d Mills said. \u201cI mean, that was not in any rehearsal of it or anything.
