BALTIMORE \u2014 The Yankees didn\u2019t call up Deivi Garcia until they needed a sixth starter \u2014 and that\u2019s pretty much what the right-hander pitched like on Monday night.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old right-hander wasn\u2019t the reason the Yankees lost to the Orioles \u2014 a lethargic offense and poor baserunning had much more to do with it \u2014 but Garcia didn\u2019t exactly stake a claim to a rotation spot.<\/p>\n

After the game<\/a>, he was optioned back to the alternate site in Scranton to open up a spot for another pitcher. Michael King is eligible to return Tuesday after being sent down.<\/p>\n

Garcia gave up a long homer to Cedric Mullins, who unloaded on a 92 mph fastball on Garcia\u2019s second pitch of the game, reaching Eutaw Street beyond the seats in right.<\/p>\n

In the second, Freddy Galvis drilled an RBI double to left-center, scoring Pedro Severino from first to give Baltimore a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

But Garcia managed to fight through a tough fourth inning without giving up another run in a 4-2 loss at Camden Yards.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe got into some trouble and made some pitches when he had to,\u2019\u2019 Aaron Boone said. \u201cHe did his job and gave us a chance. We just couldn\u2019t mount enough [offense].\u201d<\/p>\n

Garcia\u2019s outing ended after 65 pitches and four innings.<\/p>\n

He called it \u201ca learning experience [and] a competitive one, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like I had to battle every single pitch,\u2019\u2019 Garcia said through an interpreter.<\/p>\n

Mired in a 2-for-36 slump, Clint Frazier started against a right-hander on Monday and walked twice.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe definitely struggled there for a couple weeks,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cI thought he had some really strong at-bats [Sunday]. \u2026 I do see some progress with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boone pointed again to Frazier\u2019s \u201creally good strike-zone knowledge. He\u2019s not a guy that chases a lot. He has tremendous bat speed. He\u2019s very strong. He\u2019a a strong, strong dude. For him, it\u2019s about having a game plan and understanding what teams and pitchers are trying to do. Make sure you get off your \u2018A\u2019 swing and be in position to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Hicks was back in the lineup Monday after sitting Sunday with back tightness, but went 0-for-4. Hicks has been largely unproductive from the left side of the plate and was bumped to seventh in the order.<\/p>\n

**Since returning from Scranton, Ford has also been sporting a moustache. \u201cWe did it as a joke at the alternate site,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cThe first guy called up was definitely gonna shave it. When I got up I said, \u2018I\u2019m not gonna shave it. I think we\u2019re 4-2 with it [going into Monday]. I\u2019ll keep riding with it and see where it goes.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
