Mark Rylance<\/strong> and Simon Pegg<\/strong> are set to fight in\u00a0The Undeclared War<\/em><\/strong>, a near-future cyber thriller from Peter Kominsky<\/strong> (Wolf Wall<\/em>,\u00a0White Oleander<\/em>). The Channel 4 series<\/a> has just been picked up by Peacock<\/strong>, which will air the show in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Peacock has ordered\u00a0The Undeclared War<\/em>, a six-part cyber thriller series\u00a0directed and co-written by seven-time BAFTA winner Peter Kosminsky, which is \u201cset in 2024 in the run up to a British general<\/a> election\u201d and \u201ctracks a leading team of analysts buried in the heart of GCHQ, the UK\u2019s version of the NSA, secretly working to ward off a cyber-attack on the country\u2019s electoral system.\u201d
\nRylance, who reunites with Kominsky after the 2015 BBC limited series\u00a0Wolf Hall<\/em>, leads the cast alongside Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible<\/em>), with\u00a0Adrian Lester<\/strong> (Mary Queen of Scots<\/em>), Alex Jennings<\/strong> (A Very English Scandal<\/em>), Maisie Richardson<\/strong>-Sellers (Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em>), and newcomer Hannah Khalique-Brown<\/strong> joining them.<\/p>\n

The series is the result of a three-year research process, in which\u00a0Kosminsky and his team \u201cgained unprecedented access to the cyber security industry on both sides of the Atlantic, allowing a realistic picture of the threat faced by the Western world to be depicted in the drama.\u201d But this is a fictional series that takes place three years in the future, and seems to posit the worst that could happ<\/a>en in the event of a cyber-attack. So like a much more realistic\u00a0Black Mirror<\/em>, or\u00a0Contagion<\/em> for cyber.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe series is based deep within the least-known arm of the UK\u2019s intelligence infrastructure, GCHQ. The story we\u2019re now able to tell casts an extraordinary, revelatory light on the hot, undeclared war taking place right now in the world\u2019s newest and most invisible domain of conflict \u2013 cyber,\u201d Kominsky said.<\/p>\n

Kominsky\u00a0will direct all six episodes and writes four. Other writers include Declan Lawn (The Salisbury Poisonings<\/em>), Adam Patterson (The Salisbury Poisonings<\/em>) and Amelia Spencer (Dead Birds<\/em>). Kominsky also reunites with\u00a0his\u00a0Wolf Hall<\/em> producer\u00a0Colin Callender, whose production company Playground also developed All Creatures Great and Small<\/em> with him.<\/p>\n

\nPeter Kosminsky will executive produce The Undeclared War<\/em>\u00a0alongside Callender and No\u00eblette Buckley (Wolf Hall<\/em>) for Playground. Robert Jones (Babylon<\/em>) also produces.<\/p>\n
