Marvel\u2019s Ironheart<\/strong><\/em> has found a head writer.<\/p>\n

Chinaka Hodge<\/strong>, who has writing credits on App<\/a>le\u2019s revival of Amazing Stories<\/em> and the TV adaptation of Bong Joon-ho\u2019s Snowpiercer<\/em>, will oversee the Disney+ comic book series, which tells the story of Riri Williams, a teenaged tech genius who reverse engineered an old Iron Man suit and essentially replaced Tony Stark after he stepped away from that role in the comics.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Disney and Marvel officially announced\u00a0that an Ironheart<\/em> series was in the works, they called it an \u201coriginal series about the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.\u201d We knew that the title role would be played by\u00a0Dominique Thomas<\/strong>, who has gone an impressive two-for-two with her short list of credits so far (she has only appeared in If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em> and Judas and the Black Messiah<\/em>). But until today, that\u2019s all the information we had about this series.
\nNow, thanks to Variety<\/a>, we know who will be running the show. Chinaka Hodge has been tapped for that position, continuing Disney and Marvel\u2019s tradition of giving lesser-known writers a significant step up in their careers and turning them into household names in the geek community. (Or, more cynically, you could look at this as Marvel executives continuing their pattern of choosing people they see as more pliable and easily controllable to slot into these leadership positions.)<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never heard of Hodge before, but Variety says\u00a0she is \u201ca screenwriter, poet, playwright, and educator\u201d who has written two books of poetry (\u201cFor Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings\u201d and \u201cDated Emcees\u201d) and plays like\u00a0\u201cChasing Mehserle\u201d and \u201cMirrors in Every Corner.\u201d She is also a founding member of the hip hop collective The Getback, which counts Snowpiercer<\/em> actor Daveed Diggs as a co-founder.
