\n Keeping kids out of the classroom can deprive them of structure and hamper their learning of not just academics but key social<\/a> cues, a city-based child therapist told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cKids thrive with a regular routine,\u201d said Ari Fox, who is also the founder and director of Cope With School NYC. \u201cConsistency is important.\u201d<\/p>\n

The switch to full-time home learning necessitated during the last school year by the coronavirus has worked for some students, but others \u2014 particularly those with less access to technology<\/a> \u2014 have gotten the short end of the stick, according to Fox.<\/p>\n

\u201cA good number of kids are falling behind,\u201d said Fox. \u201cSome kids don\u2019t learn with this format.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the potential return to at least some in-person learning in the fall could help, Fox said that it can\u2019t fully take the place of a five-day-a-week classroom experience \u2014 particularly in helping school kids grow and mature socially.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe playground politics is very important and learning how to navigate social situations,\u201d said Fox. \u201cThat\u2019s the learning. You\u2019re learning to navigate social interactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a June 25 guidance, the American Academy of Pediatrics said that, while common sense precautions should be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, kids learn best in classrooms.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
