\n Chaos will likely rule the classrooms under the city\u2019s plan to reopen public schools with a staggered schedule this fall, teachers told The Post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many variables right now that teachers don\u2019t know what to think,\u201d a teachers-union leader in Brooklyn said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assumption is that this is going to be a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several teachers told The Post they had a host of worries about the looming school year \u2014 including personal health fears, the feasibility of staggered student attendance and concerns about their own kids being at home while they\u2019re at work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have eight weeks before this is all supposed to fall in place,\u201d said a teacher in Manhattan\u2019s high-performing District 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeads are spinning. How do we make sure kids have their masks on? What do you do when they don\u2019t social<\/a> distance? What are the halls going to look like? It\u2019s \u00adendless.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another teacher said Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Department of Education should have addressed the issue earlier and given principals more time to develop a plan.<\/p>\n

The head of the United Federation of Teachers, Michael Mulgrew, offered a cautious endorsement of de\u2009Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza\u2019s reopening plan, but noted that many teachers \u201care obviously very app<\/a>rehensive with so many of our members passing away from\u201d COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Mulgrew also blasted the city for not providing support to parents who can\u2019t be home to supervise their kids during remote learning \u00adsessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been telling the city this for months and they still have not gotten back to us,\u201d he told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a crisis we know is coming right at us.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
