“#Mark Zuckerberg plastered face in sunscreen to fool paparazzi<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Facebook<\/a> CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the images of him caked in sunscreen was a failed effort to disguise himself from the paparazzi while surfing in Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Now-infamous images of the tech founder riding an eFoil surfboard went viral last year, drawing comparisons to Batman villain the Joker and others like Queen Elizabeth I, who died in 1603. Zuckerberg addressed the incident Tuesday in a livestreamed chat with Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, claiming he didn\u2019t really think he needed all that sunscreen to protect against the burn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg acknowledged that he\u2019s \u201ca pretty pale person\u201d and he gets burned doing outside activities in places like Hawaii, adding that \u201cit\u2019s even more extreme than that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI noticed there was this paparazzi guy following us and, so I was like, \u2018Oh I don\u2019t want him to recognize me, so you know what I\u2019m gonna do? I\u2019m just gonna put a ton of sunscreen on my face,\u2019\u201d Zuckerberg said. \u201cAnd that backfired.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI really should have thought that one through more,\u201d he added. \u201cThat is just way too much sunscreen. No one needs to be wearing that much sunscreen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Facebook founder tried to app<\/a>ear in good spirits about the whole incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf someone wants to post a sunscreen meme, it\u2019s cool. I\u2019m happy to give the internet some laughs,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m glad people can laugh about it. I laugh about it and I think it\u2019s pretty funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not the first time Zuckerberg has tried to explain the curious amount of sunscreen on his face, and his latest clarification is a departure from those he\u2019s offered in the past. In September, The Verge reported details<\/a> from a staff question-and-answer session that Zuckerberg held shortly after the notorious sunscreen incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a person who\u2019s under the illusion that I look particularly cool at any point with what I\u2019m doing,\u201d he said, according to The Verge. \u201cBut when you\u2019re eFoiling down the coast of Hawaii, and it\u2019s beautiful and it just feels like it\u2019s awesome \u2014 and then you come back online and you see that\u2019s the photo, that\u2019s what you look like \u2014 it\u2019s like, OK. All right. That\u2019s maybe quite a bit more sunscreen than I thought I was wearing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to apologize for wearing too much sunscreen,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u201cI think that sunscreen is good, and I stand behind that.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
