Slain NYPD officer Anastasios Tsakos was sent off with a salute from hundreds of New York\u2019s Finest on Thursday as his body was transported to his family on Long Island for a funeral service next week.<\/p>\n

A phalanx of NYPD motorcycles and squad cars escorted the ambulance as it left the city Medical Examiner\u2019s Office two days after the veteran cop was struck and killed by a drunk driver on the Long Island Expressway while directing traffic.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, there are two families that are in mourning and suffering,\u201d Inspector Nicole Papamichael, head of the NYPD Highway District, said Thursday. \u201cThe Tsakos family \u2014 my heart goes out to them \u2014 and the NYPD family.<\/p>\n
