New Mexico\u2019s\u00a0Three Rivers wildfire\u00a0has almost doubled in size.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Tuesday night that the\u00a0blaze<\/a>\u00a0had expanded from 6,100 acres to app<\/a>roximately 12,000 acres.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0fire is now 5% contained and some evacuation orders were lifted in areas impacted by the fire.<\/p>\n

However, officials warned that the situation would be fluid based on both fire and activity levels and cautioned residents to remain vigilant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease be aware that while we are lifting these restrictions right now, these may change in the future due to fire activity,\u201d\u00a0Lincoln National Forest<\/a>\u00a0Public Affairs Officer Laura Rabon\u00a0told reporters earlier this week<\/a>. \u201cWe are encouraging residents to stay ready to evacuate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are no reported injuries in the fire and no structures have burned.<\/p>\n

The Three Rivers Fire was sparked early Monday and rapidly swelled about\u00a0half a mile from the Three Rivers Campground on the White Mountains.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Tuesday post on the\u00a0government Three Rivers Fire Facebook page<\/a>\u00a0said\u00a0that the fire has since crossed onto Mescalero Apache Tribal Land and that it includes smaller \u201cspot fires\u201d in addition to the main fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Notably, Rabon told KOAT on Tuesday that fire\u00a0had hit the burn scar area<\/a>\u00a0of 2012\u2019s 40,000-acre\u00a0Little Bear Fire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although Tuesday morning brought\u00a0cooler temperatures<\/a>\u00a0and cloud coverage, they noted that as cloud cover began to lift, fire behavior and smoke increased.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrews also continued scouting the rough terrain of the White Mountain Wilderness for potential fire line locations. Firefighters\u2019 challenges in the coming days are the extremely rugged terrain and limited road and trail access in the fire area,\u201d they wrote, adding that a multi-agency team would be deployed at 6 a.m. Wednesday to\u00a0take command of the fire.<\/p>\n

More than 200 personnel are already working to fight the fire, including members of the U.S. Forest Service and\u00a0Mescalero Apache Fire Rescue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Lincoln National Forest and surrounding areas remain under a\u00a0red flag warning and fire weather watch as southern New Mexico is in\u00a0extreme drought conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.<\/p>\n

Those with\u00a0respiratory conditions<\/a>\u00a0are encouraged to stay indoors with the windows closed as smoke moves northeast into the communities of\u00a0Alto, Capitan and Ruidoso.\n <\/div>\n
