Overall, it\u2019s a nice chair that I think is worth the money, though the $295\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vari.com%2Ftask-chair%2FST-TSKCHR.html&amp;key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482\">non-headrest version<\/a> is a better value for $55 less.<\/p>\n<p>And while it nails the basics like a comfortable seat and good support, it has some interesting issues that I didn\u2019t expect on a chair like this. Let\u2019s talk about it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Assembly_and_Construction\"><\/span>Assembly and Construction<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of my favorite things about the Task Chair is that it comes almost completely preassembled. The back and arms are installed out of the box, so all you have to do set up the base and insert the headrest (if you bought that model). The whole thing took about five minutes.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79796 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/04\/06e7d709.jpg\" alt=\"A front view of the Vari Task Chair\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Cameron Summerson\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">Cameron Summerson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Of course, that means the Chair shows up in a <i>big ol\u2019 box<\/i> that\u2019s both heavy and bulky. Not a big deal of course, just know that you\u2019ll get quite a bit of extra trash out of the deal here.<\/p>\n<p>With nearly everything installed out of the box, the chair feels very robust and solid. Everything is pre-tightened from the factory and I haven\u2019t experienced any slippage or loosening over the last few months of regular use.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_in_a_Chair\"><\/span>What\u2019s in a Chair<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ve covered why it\u2019s worth investing in a good office chair, but the thought of spending a mortgage payment on a <i>chair<\/i> is off-putting to many (including this writer). That\u2019s one of the things that makes Vari\u2019s Task Chair so <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ealing\u2014it has a lot of the same features you\u2019d expect from a higher-end chair for a fraction of the cost. Here\u2019s the rundown:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fully adjustable back and seat height; armrest height and angle; back tilt and tension<\/li>\n<li>Adjustable headrest with tilt (optional, extra)<\/li>\n<li>Mesh lumbar support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basically, the Task Chair has <em>most<\/em> of the things you\u2019d want to adjust, save for lumbar adjustment. That might be a dealbreaker for some, but I found the lumbar support to be sufficient for me\u2014there are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B00HFT9KI2?ots=1&amp;tag=reviewgeek-20\">more affordable chairs<\/a> out there that offer this, however.<\/p>\n<p>Most chairs are height-adjustable and offer some level of tilt, but Vari\u2019s option has two levels of resistance for tilt (easy and, uh, hard?) as well as the option to lock it. Instead of using a sliding pin mechanism to lock the tilt (like cheaper chairs), it uses a dial on the left side. It\u2019s a nice touch that feels more reliable than the pin-style.<\/p>\n<p>However, this is where my first issue with the chair comes into play: The back squeaks when shifting in a side-to-side motion. It didn\u2019t at first, but after about 6-8 weeks of use, it started squeaking every time I turn. I\u2019ve tried lubing the various pivot points around the back mechanism, but I can\u2019t seem to pinpoint <i>exactly<\/i> where the squeak is coming from, so I haven\u2019t been able to get rid of it.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79798 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/04\/d9ad83fa.jpg\" alt=\"The bottom flexible mechanism on the back of the chair\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Cameron Summerson\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is the bottom of the back. The squeak is coming from somewhere in this vicinity. <span class=\"imagecredit\">Cameron Summerson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s an annoying quirk that taints the otherwise excellent build quality.<\/p>\n<p>The armrests are also adjustable, both in height and angle. This is a welcome addition because if you\u2019ve ever used a chair with adjustable armrests, it\u2019s hard to go back to having them in a fixed position. This is not only great for increased comfort in a number of situations, but it also allows the chair to fully cater to different heights and body types.<\/p>\n<p>But this is also where my second (and only other) complaint comes in: The armrests are hard and uncomfortable. They\u2019re padded, but the padding is <i>very firm<\/i>. I hoped they would break in after a few weeks of use, but so far that hasn\u2019t been the case. Even after months of sitting in the chair, my elbows are sore at the end of every day. If you also experience this, you could always add aftermarket armrest pads, which are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s?k=desk+chair+arm+pad+covers&amp;tag=reviewgeek-20\">readily available on Amazon<\/a>. I personally find add-ons like this to be tacky at best and annoying at worst, so I\u2019ve just been dealing with the armrests as they are.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79799 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/04\/2112c67b.jpg\" alt=\"A closeup of the Task Chair's right armrest\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Cameron Summerson\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This armrest looks innocent enough, but it\u2019s a savage <span class=\"imagecredit\">Cameron Summerson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Of course, your mileage may vary. I have particularly bony elbows, which probably has something to do with this. But this is also something I haven\u2019t experienced with other chairs, though I <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly prefer chairs <i>without<\/i> armrests anyway. I find that they often get in the way. On the upside, it looks like you can easily remove the arms on the Vari Task chair without otherwise affecting the construction or stability of the chair.<\/p>\n<p>I also want to touch on the headrest. While not everyone likes a headrest on their office chair, I wanted to test it out. It\u2019s\u00a0vertically adjustable and also pivots to match your head\/neck angle, which is nice. This allows it to work well for people of varying heights.<\/p>\n<p>But really, I think the chair is probably better (or at least as good) without the headrest, so if you\u2019re not sure you\u2019ll like it, I\u2019d suggest saving yourself $55 and opting to go without it. Just note that it doesn\u2019t look like you can\u2019t add it on after-the-fact if you buy the non-headrest version. I guess you could also buy the version with the headrest and just take it off if you don\u2019t like it, though that could ultimately end up in a $55 waste of money if you never use the thing. Decisions, decisions.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79800 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/04\/12e92536.jpg\" alt=\"A closeup of the back of the headrest\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" data-credittext=\"Cameron Summerson\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">It comes out easily with a strong tug. <span class=\"imagecredit\">Cameron Summerson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, I want to talk about cleaning the chair. Mesh chairs are notoriously difficult to clean, and this one is no different. At one point during my testing, my youngest son decided that he needed to vomit while playing in my office, and the chair seemed like as good of a place as any. It was, uh, messy.<\/p>\n<p>It took a while to get it all cleaned up\u2014lots of scrubbing and soapy water. The mesh, while breathable, holds liquid and liquid-esque material that is <i>very<\/i> hard to get out. I ended up using a can of compressed air to blow out the mesh back (which uses a different construction\/pattern than the seat) to clean it out. Ultimately it all worked out and I was able to get it completely clean.<\/p>\n<p>Just know that, should you spill something (or worse) on the Task Chair, it\u2019s going to take some elbow grease to get it clean. But it can be done.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Okay_but_Is_It_Comfortable\"><\/span>Okay, but Is It Comfortable?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-79801\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20e20aad.jpg\" alt=\"The Vari Task Chair with the headrest removed\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">I like it better without the headrest.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A chair can be loaded with features, but it\u2019s a dealbreaker if it\u2019s not good at the main thing it\u2019s designed for: sitting on. The good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> is that the Vari Task Chair is <i>quite <\/i>comfortable. The padded seat has been consistently comfortable since the day I took it out of the box and hasn\u2019t shown any signs of even the slightest bit of breakdown.<\/p>\n<p>The same can be said for the ergonomic mesh back. It breaths very well (because, you know, mesh) and is very supportive. I find that both my neck and back feel less tired at the end of a long workday when compared to my old chair (a gaming chair), which is refreshing.<\/p>\n<p>Again, I don\u2019t love the armrests, which is really the biggest downside here for me.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion_Good_not_Great\"><\/span>Conclusion: Good, not Great<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Overall, I like the Vari Task Chair. It has its quirks\u2014the squeaking back and hard armrests\u2014but those are honestly just minor complaints relative to the overall comfort of the chair. The seat cushion is very comfortable, as is the mesh back.
