Not only did New York place third, but its bitter rival, New Jersey, came in first. Third-placed New York was given shoutouts for Manhattan\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.johnsofbleecker.com\/\">John\u2019s of Bleecker<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.joespizzanyc.com\/\">Joe\u2019s Pizza<\/a>; Brooklyn\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lucalibrooklyn.com\/\">Lucali<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.robertaspizza.com\/\">Roberta\u2019s<\/a>; and slice joints <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scarrspizza.com\/\">Scarr\u2019s Pizza<\/a> on the Lower East Side and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pauliegee.com\/slice-shop\/\">Paulie Gee\u2019s Slice Shop<\/a> in Greenpoint.<\/p>\n<p>According to Landsel, New York City pizza has two strikes against it. High rents, he said, have made pizzerias prioritize earning money over honing traditional craft.
