It\u2019s been nearly 10 years since \u201cTan Mom\u201d Patricia Krentcil was accused of bringing her then-5-year-old daughter into a New Jersey tanning bed.<\/p>\n

Krentcil was charged with child endangerment in 2012 for allegedly exposing her child to artificial UV rays in a Nutley salon \u2014 and earned the nickname Tan Mom overnight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was dubbed \u2018Tan Mom\u2019 all over tabloids, and this turned into the most massive hurricane in the world,\u201d Krentcil, 53, told The Post\u2019s \u201cI Survived Internet Infamy\u201d series<\/a> of the scandal. \u201cIt went global. There are no words to describe what happ<\/a>ened to me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police became involved when Krentcil\u2019s daughter Anna allegedly arrived at school with sunburn all over her body, while Krentcil said she only had \u201ca little bit of burn on her back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was accused of child endangerment. I was vindicated through the courts,\u201d said Krentcil, who told The Post she still tans twice a week \u2014 in her own tanning bed, no less. \u201cThe owner of the tanning salon told the police when they came and asked, \u2018Did she bring her daughter into the booth?\u2019 and the owner said, \u2018No.’\u201d<\/p>\n

A grand jury ultimately declined to indict Krentcil in 2013 and she did not lose custody of her little girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did nothing wrong, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Krentcil and her family continued to endure harassment from the media<\/a> and paparazzi, which caused Krentcil to turn to alcohol to cope.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got so sick from it all \u2014 I started drinking and making a fool of myself,\u201d she shared, before adding she and her family relocated to Tampa, Florida, to turn her life around and start fresh.<\/p>\n

The woman who made fake baking famous met Howard Stern and started to appear on his show as a personality, which led her to embrace the Tan Mom identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t bother me anymore. It\u2019s two separate people,\u201d she explained to The Post. \u201cThere\u2019s Tan Mom, celebrity, and then there\u2019s Patricia Marie, Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her rebranded identity even inspired a 2013 \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d parody<\/a> by Kristin Wiig, and Krentcil later used her infamy to launch a music career<\/a> in 2018 with her singing partner, Adam Barta, 41.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the best singer in the whole entire world,\u201d admitted Krentcil. \u201c[Barta] is definitely the voice, the better voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, her husband, Richard Krentcil, battled colon cancer<\/a> after a heart attack, stroke and hip replacement<\/a> in 2020. The couple is estranged but still living together with their two children: son Addison and now 15-year-old daughter Anna.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith all our combined health ailments, please keep our entire family in your prayers,\u201d she told Page Six last year, referring to a period last year when she suffered a series of health problems that made her feel like her \u201cwhole body died<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

After emerging from a medically induced coma in June 2019, Patricia revealed she suffered cardiac arrest and was diagnosed with pneumonia, pancreatitis and an infection that spread to her lungs.<\/p>\n

Through it all, the \u201cFree 2 Be Me\u201d singer had one mantra to get her through it all: \u201cStand tall.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
