It\u2019s a slow-moving tale, as I mentioned, but at under ninety minutes you\u2019ll hardly notice the pacing as the title character \u2014 brought to intense life by Morfydd Clark \u2014 engages with her fervent belief and faith. It\u2019s a study in madness, to be sure, but as good as the film is it\u2019s those final moments that seal it as a great one too. No spoilers here, but the film explores her journey as she attempts to save another woman\u2019s very soul, and it\u2019s something that tips her over the edge in hauntingly beautiful ways. The story explores one woman\u2019s discovery in the 1800\u2019s of a possible escape North for Southern slaves. It\u2019s a network of people helping to transport others in secret, but it\u2019s no mere metaphor \u2014 she finds actual tunnels, trains, and engineers beneath the ground. The story is told as a straight ten-episode drama (by all accounts) as opposed to something more fantastical, and it should be an interesting approach to the real-life history.<\/p>\n<p>A new 4K UltraHD release of Kinji Fukasaku\u2019s masterpiece, <em>Battle Royale<\/em> (2000) is landing soon from Arrow Video, but why not watch some variation of a knock-off in the meantime? Sure, you could revisit <em>The Hunger <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>s<\/em> (2012), or you could take a chance on something new. <strong><em>Panic<\/em><\/strong> (premieres May 28th) takes place in a small town dying a slow, economic death where each year the graduating seniors enter an increasingly dangerous competition that will determine their future. Lauren Oliver adapts her own novel, the first in a series, with the intention of continuing the show if season one does well. The show appears to take place in the real world as opposed to an alternate\/futuristic one, and we\u2019ll see what it all entails come the end of the month when it premieres.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fly_High_With_This_Triple_Feature\"><\/span>Fly High With This Triple Feature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-365071\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan.jpg\" alt=\"Flightplan\" width=\"1803\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan.jpg 1803w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan-800x532.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan-1090x725.jpg 1090w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/flightplan-1536x1022.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1803px) 100vw, 1803px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Robert Zemeckis\u2019 filmography is known best for highly entertaining genre fare involving time <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> or the undead, but he occasionally dips into more serious fare. <strong><em>Flight<\/em><\/strong> (2012) saw him do so with notable success both critical and at the box-office, and it follows an airline pilot whose heroic efforts in the sky save hundreds of lives only to land him in hot water anyway. Denzel Washington gives a terrific lead performance (surprise) as a man whose actions are complicated, to say the least, but it wouldn\u2019t be a Zemeckis movie if there wasn\u2019t some f\/x action \u2014 here in the form of a pretty effective plane crash set-piece.<\/p>\n<p>Jodie Foster\u2019s been in more box-office hits than you can probably name \u2014 eleven $100m plus movies starting with <em>The Silence of the Lambs<\/em> (1991) \u2014 and one that doesn\u2019t quite get the attention it deserves is <strong><em>Flightplan<\/em><\/strong> (2005). It\u2019s a high-concept thriller that sees a woman whose international flight is interrupted by the discovery that her daughter, who was on the flight with her, has disappeared. What follows plays out in the air as she searches for the girl while those around her deny the child was ever on board, and the result is a highly entertaining series of thrills, mind games, and surprises.<\/p>\n<p>This pick is clearly focused on a different kind of high all together, but it still counts. <strong><em>Your Highness<\/em><\/strong> (2011) was David Gordon Green\u2019s follow-up to his comedic debut, <em>Pineapple Express<\/em> (2008), but despite featuring the same leads and adding Natalie Portman it pretty much tanked at the box-office. That\u2019s arguably because it\u2019s not all that funny, but comedy is subjective meaning it still has its fans. Maybe you\u2019re among them? To be fair, the film has its moments as this unlikely trio work their way through a fantasy landscape so there\u2019s enough fun to warrant a watch.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_Alien_Marathon\"><\/span>An Alien Marathon<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-365070\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3.jpg\" alt=\"Alien\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3-800x400.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3-1090x545.jpg 1090w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/alien-3-710x355.jpg 710w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>While some people believe horror movies can\u2019t exist in outer space, the rest of us need only to point at Ridley Scott\u2019s <strong><em>Alien<\/em><\/strong> (1979) to prove otherwise. The unlikely franchise starter remains an all-timer with its \u201cmonsters on a space ship\u201d premise featuring body horror, small creatures, and a terrifying, bipedal nightmare intent on puncturing your skull with its retractable jaw. Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton, Veronica Cartwright, and Ian Holm \u2014 along with Scott and alien designer HR Giger \u2014 take viewers on a frightening, horrifying ride that still thrills and chills over forty years later.<\/p>\n<p>You wouldn\u2019t catch James Cameron making a sequel to someone else\u2019s movie these days, but thankfully he wasn\u2019t yet trapped up his own ass back in the 80s. <strong><em>Aliens<\/em><\/strong> (1986) explodes the fight between humanity and the alien creatures into an all-out action masterpiece making it the too-rare slice of pure action\/horror perfection. The creatures are abundant, the firepower is heavy, and the alien queen is a real bitch \u2014 luckily Sigourney Weaver is back to exterminate the threat with extreme prejudice.<\/p>\n<p>If <em>Alien<\/em> is horror and <em>Aliens<\/em> is action, I feel comfortable calling David Fincher\u2019s <strong><em>Alien 3<\/em><\/strong> (1992) the drama of the franchise. Sure, there\u2019s still plenty of alien carnage, but this is a character drama about isolation, abandonment, and penance as Sigourney Weaver\u2019s Ripley crashes on a prison planet overflowing with guilt, newfound religion, and soon-to-be corpses. Hate the opening credit reveals if you must, but Fincher and friends still deliver an engaging exploration of a last stand against evils both monstrous and corporate.<\/p>\n<p>The final film in the franchise proper \u2014 yes, I know there are two <em>Predator<\/em> crossovers and two prequels \u2014 Jean-Pierre Jeunet\u2019s <strong><em>Alien: Resurrection<\/em><\/strong> (1997) is essentially the big Hollywood entry, albeit with some stylish visuals. It\u2019s easily the least personable of the four films with stakes that never find emotional power, but the addition of Ron Perlman and Winona Ryder to the cast at least keeps things entertaining. It\u2019s never dull, is what I\u2019m saying, and while it can\u2019t compare to the other three it\u2019s still an enjoyable romp through space.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\"
