“#Law & Order Defense Lawyer Spinoff Nabs NBC Series<\/a> Order<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The world of Law & Order is not slowing down.<\/p>\n

NBC on Monday placed a series order for Law & Order: For the Defense, a brand-new series set in the world of the beloved franchise.<\/p>\n

From two-time Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, creator of the Law & Order brand, Law & Order: For the Defense, will take an unbiased look inside a criminal defense firm.<\/p>\n

\n \"Voice<\/img>\n<\/div>\n

The series will put the lawyers under the microscope, along with the criminal justice system, with every week delivering the promise of a contemporary morality tale.<\/p>\n

Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, along with Wolf, Arthur Forney, Julie Weitz, and Peter Jankowski.<\/p>\n

The series will be produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Wolf Entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new show is exciting for me personally,\u201d Wolf said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spent the last 30 years on shows that played offense. Now it will be great to play defense, and being able to do it with Carol is an honor and an opportunity for both of us to do television that hasn\u2019t been done before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to bring audiences the latest chapter of \u2018Law & Order,\u2019 which will explore a different angle of the criminal justice system,\u201d said Lisa Katz, President, Script<\/a>ed Programming, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited about Dick Wolf\u2019s perpetually thought-provoking approach as well his collaboration with Carol Mendelsohn, who we have been eager to do a series with for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The franchise has been huge for decades, dating back to the original Emmy Award-winning \u201cLaw & Order,\u201d which debuted in 1990, and has been a staple of the network ever since.<\/p>\n

\n \"An<\/img>\n<\/div>\n

Law & Order: SVU, starring Emmy winner Mariska Hargitay, is in its 22nd season, being the longest-running live-action series in the history of television.<\/p>\n

Wolf is also the executive producer of the brand\u2019s most recent installment, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which premiered April 1 and was the top series debut from any network in 2\u00bd years (excluding NFL lead-ins.).<\/p>\n

In addition to the Law & Order brand, Wolf is executive producer of NBC\u2019s hit Chicago series, which continues to dominate the drama landscape, as well as CBS\u2019 FBI franchise.<\/p>\n

Wolf has brought several huge franchises to the air, creating worlds with huge scope for expansion.<\/p>\n

There are even more series set in the L&O universe in the works, including Hate Crimes, which has had a long road to development.<\/p>\n

The network has already renewed This Is Us, Chicago Fire, Med, PD, SVU, Young Rock, Mr. Mayor, Kenan, New Amsterdam, Transplant, and The Blacklist for next season.<\/p>\n
