In a city where dancing is forbidden, not even a teenager with a rebellious spirit can save DC couples reeling from the capital\u2019s latest\u00a0COVID\u00a0guidelines.<\/p>\n

Seemingly ripped straight from the plot of \u201cFootloose,\u201d\u00a0Washington, DC\u2019s, new social<\/a> distancing rules ban standing and dancing at weddings. The sudden announcement, made just as\u00a0wedding season\u00a0kicks off, has blindsided couples getting ready to tie the knot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s insane, it\u2019s been an absolute roller coaster,\u201d says Stephanie Sadowski, a DC wedding planner and owner of SRS\u00a0Events.<\/p>\n

Sadowski says couples are being forced to move their weddings outside of the nation\u2019s capital with just one or two week\u2019s notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey want to have a party. Planning their wedding, they\u2019ve made concessions along the way, they\u2019ve reduced, reduced\u00a0and reduced their guest count in Washington, DC,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

According to the latest DC order<\/a>, indoor and outdoor weddings are capp<\/a>ed at 25 percent capacity. A waiver is required for more than 250 people. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement to local affiliate Fox 5 DC<\/a>, Mayor Muriel Bowser\u2019s office said it has the dancing ban in place as an extra layer of safety to reduce the spread of COVID-19 because when people stand and dance their behavior changes. For example, people are more likely to get close and touch each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very confusing why Washington, DC, is singling that out,\u201d says Sadowski.<\/p>\n

DC is not the only state evacuating the dance floor \u2013 Illinois and Michigan have similar bans. New York and New Jersey just recently eased their restrictions on dancing.<\/p>\n

It is unclear how long the dancing ban will be in place in DC, but in the meantime Sadowski says her couples are turning to nearby Virginia and Maryland to celebrate their big day. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope the mayor will start looking at the science<\/a> and looking at the facts and looking at what the CDC is recommending and allowing,\u201d says Sadowski.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
