Laser swords are no longer just for movie characters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, May 4 \u2014 widely celebrated as \u201cStar Wars\u201d day \u2014 Disney announced that, for the first time, mere mortals can arm themselves with retractable, working lightsabers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLight\u2026darkness\u2026a balance,\u201d says \u201cThe Last Jedi\u201d character Rey in a teaser video<\/a> for the cinematic weapon\u2019s earthling launch.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that\u2019s a new type of lightsaber Rey is holding in her hand, created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development,\u201d Disney Parks wrote in an accompanying blog post<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The trailer also promoted Disney\u2019s new \u201call immersive\u201d Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser<\/a> hotel, set to open for two-night stays in 2022, when the sabers will become available. Guests at the galactic resort will be the first to experience the real world sabers and will additionally be given the opportunity \u201cto train in the ancient ways of the lightsaber\u201d among other thematic offerings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you\u2019ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions \u2014 or even the casual conversations you may have \u2014 determine how your personal journey unfolds,\u201d the post goes on.<\/p>\n

The new, retractable spear is unsurprisingly not the first re-creation of the famed franchise\u2019s most iconic weapon: YouTube<\/a>rs and the French have also previously made various attempts at emulating the device.<\/p>\n

Fans have made it clear that, once they get their hands on the glowing swords, some ought to turn green: On the heels of \u201cMay the Fourth,\u201d some \u201cStar Wars\u201d die-hards are also now promoting #RevengeOfTheFifth and \u201cMay the Sith<\/a>\u201d \u2014 additional \u201cStar Wars\u201d theme<\/a>d holidays meant to promote the series<\/a>\u2019 villains.\u00a0<\/p>\n
