“#’Jeopardy!’ Producer Reveals When to Expect New Permanent Host Announcement<\/strong>”

While Jeopardy!<\/em> is currently going through a revolving door of guest hosts, fans won\u2019t have to wait much longer to find out who is taking over the quiz show permanently.<\/p>\n

Executive producer Mike Richards, who recently guest-hosted himself, shed some light on the matter when he app<\/a>eared on The Wall Street Journal\u2019s podcast The Journal<\/em><\/a> last week. He stated that a decision will be made before filming begins on the 38th season in late July or early August and explained why the hiring process has taken so long.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started talking about it internally that to name someone right away would be very hard for us because we were still reeling from the loss [of Alex Trebek],\u201d said Richards. \u201cIf on Friday it\u2019s Alex\u2019s last show and then Monday it\u2019s a new person\u2019s show, that would probably be unfair to the person stepping in to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trebek passed away in November 2020 after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer and his final Jeopardy!<\/em> episode aired in January. Since then, several guest stars have taken up the mantle, including Ken Jennings<\/span>, <\/span>Katie Couric<\/span>, <\/span>Dr. Mehmet Oz<\/span>, <\/span>Aaron Rodgers<\/span>, <\/span>Anderson Cooper<\/span>, and currently <\/span>60 Minutes<\/span><\/em> reporter <\/span>Bill Whitaker<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether any of these guest hosts will be given the full-time role remains to be seen, as even Richards himself isn\u2019t sure who the new host will be.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to come down to the heads of Sony to make that decision, ultimately, and it\u2019ll come down to testing,\u201d he told The Journal. \u201cThey\u2019ve been a part of it. They know what\u2019s going on in the studio. They\u2019re watching the feed, the tapings. It\u2019s very extensive. It\u2019s unlike anything I\u2019ve ever been a part of, as far as testing in its size and scope.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is still a strong lineup of guest hosts to come as <\/span>Jeopardy!<\/span><\/em> finishes up its 37th season. This includes the likes of <\/span>Mayim Bialik<\/span>, <\/span>Savannah Guthrie<\/span>, <\/span>Dr. Sanjay Gupta<\/span>, <\/span>Robin Roberts<\/span>, <\/span>LeVar Burton<\/span>, and <\/span>Joe Buck<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to make an informed decision,\u201d Richards continued. \u201cWe want to go at this with real analytics and real testing and not just go, \u2018Hey, how about this guy?\u2019 which is kind of how a lot of these decisions have been made historically.\u201d<\/p>\n
