As is often the case on huge Hollywood blockbuster movies<\/a>, Indiana Jones 5<\/strong><\/em> has gone through multiple writers on its way toward production. Considering the disappointment of 2008\u2019s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull<\/em>, the quality of this new movie\u2019s script has been a big talking point among film fans \u2013 but now one person involved with the movie is talking up the script in a big way.<\/p>\n

Mads Mikkelsen<\/strong>, who was announced as part of the movie\u2019s cast a few weeks ago, says in a new interview that the Indiana Jones 5<\/em> script \u201cwas everything [he] wished it to be\u201d when he read it. Then he put on a conductor\u2019s hat, leapt aboard a locomotive, hung a gigantic sign on it that read \u201cAll Aboard the Hype Train,\u201d and sped off into the night. It sounded like he was yelling something about metaphors becoming reality, but it was tough to hear him because he was also maniacally pulling on the horn as the train disappeared into the distance.

In an interview with Collider<\/a>, Mikkelsen (Another Round<\/em>, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em>) was asked about joining the cast of Indy 5. \u201cI\u2019m very, very excited about it,\u201d he replied. \u201cI rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/em> the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it\u2019s such great storytelling. So yes, it\u2019s a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with\u2026I\u2019m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.\u201d
\nI know, I know: it\u2019s easy to roll your eyes when an actor says positive things about a project they\u2019re involved in. But it\u2019s been a hell of a year, and I personally would love nothing more than if this James Mangold<\/strong>-directed movie, which will feature Harrison Ford<\/strong>\u2018s final performance in his iconic role, turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a fitting finale for that character, and Mikkelsen\u2019s comments make it seem as if that\u2019s a possibility.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, Mikkelsen said he thought he was being \u201cinvited in to create a character\u201d here, and praised the way the Indy franchise has consistently included a \u201cgenre mix\u201d in its entries. \u201cThere is something that is a little larger-than-life, almost back to the \u201930s with a Peter Lorre<\/strong> kind of feel, and then you have Indiana Jones who kind of is a straight man,\u201d he said. I wonder if a strong case could be made that Mikkelsen is the equivalent of this generation\u2019s Peter Lorre, but while mulling that over, I\u2019ll be crossing my fingers that Ford will be playing the straight man opposite a goofy best friend character played by Mikkelsen in this upcoming sequel.<\/p>\n

Indiana Jones 5<\/em> is slated to arrive in theaters on\u00a0July 29<\/strong>,\u00a02022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
