coronavirus-borne illness COVID-19 climbed above 154 million on Wednesday, and the World Health Organization said cases had remained at their highest levels since the start of the outbreak for a second straight week. <\/p>\n<p> In its latest weekly epidemiological update, the agency said there were more than 5.7 million new cases in the week through May 2, following nine straight weeks of rising cases. <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cNew deaths continue to increase for the seventh consecutive week, with over 93,000 deaths,\u201d said the update. \u201cThe Southeast Asia Region continues to report marked increases in both case and death incidences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>India alone accounted for more than 90% of both cases and deaths in the region, as well as 46% of global cases and 25% of global deaths reported in the past week, said the WHO. <\/p>\n<p>India counted 382,315 new cases on Wednesday<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mohfw.gov.in\/\" class=\"icon none\">, according to its health ministry, <\/a>and a record of 3,780 deaths. India has recorded more than 300,000 new cases a day for the last two weeks. Those numbers are widely understood represent vast undercounts given the strains on its healthcare system and shortage of tests.<\/p>\n<p>Hospitals are still clamoring for vital supplies, including oxygen, and morgues and crematoria are overwhelmed by the numbers of dead. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> reports have documented tragic scenes of patients dying in ambulances while waiting for ICU beds or oxygen. Western governments, including the U.S., have been flying in essential supplies.  <\/p>\n<p>An Indian delegation that was invited to attend a G-7 meeting of foreign ministers in London has been forced to self-isolate after two of its members tested positive for COVID-19, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/uk\/covid-scare-g7-meeting-after-indian-delegates-test-positive-sky-2021-05-05\/\" class=\"icon none\">Reuters reported.<\/a> India was among several non\u2013G-7 countries invited to attend the event. <\/p>\n<p>The nation of almost 1.4 billion has also seen its vaccination drive falter amid a shortage of supplies. Economists polled by Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal had forecast the index to edge up to 64.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the March reading was the highest since the ISM began the survey in 1997, and any number above 60% is a sign of broad business strength.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was slowing growth in the services sector in April,\u201d said Anthony Nieves, chairman of the survey. \u201cHowever, the rate of expansion is still strong.
