Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, says he\u2019s close to making a decision about whether to run for governor next year \u2014 and he app<\/a>ears to be leaning toward \u201cyes.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI would say I\u2019m closer to yes than I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d the 35-year-old Republican told NY1 in an interview<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will make a decision in the next eight to 10 days or so.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Trump aide would go toe-to-toe with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the three-term Democrat currently mired in a torrent of scandals involving sexual misconduct and his handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Giuliani revealed last month that he was mulling entering the 2022 gubernatorial race, telling The Post, \u201cThere\u2019s an opportunity for Republicans to take back New York. Absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n

The possibility ramped up in recent weeks, as Giuliani travel<\/a>ed the state to gauge interest in his candidacy, NY1 reported.<\/p>\n

Giuliani, who worked for Former President Donald Trump in the Office of Public Liaison, said he has sought the ex-commander-in-chief\u2019s advice on a potential run.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw him this weekend. We had a good conversation,\u201d he told NY1. \u201cI\u2019ve known President Trump for over 20 years. I worked for him in the White House for four years. So I\u2019m not going to run away from him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an encouraging conversation. We\u2019ll put it that way,\u201d Giuliani added.<\/p>\n

A Giuliani gubernatorial run would pit two of New York\u2019s most prominent political families against one another.<\/p>\n

Cuomo, 63, is the son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, who was elected to three terms, while Giuliani\u2019s father, Rudy, served as NYC mayor from 1994 to 2001. <\/p>\n

The FBI last week raided Rudy\u2019s law office and Manhattan apartment, searching for evidence that he acted as an unregistered foreign agent, a violation of lobbying laws, according to a warrant.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media<\/a> outside his dad\u2019s Upper East Side building, Andrew blasted the feds for the \u201cdisgusting\u201d raid, which he claimed was politically motivated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is absolutely absurd,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cIf this can happen to the former president\u2019s lawyer, this can happen to any American.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far, Long Island Rep. Lee Zeldin is the only Republican contender to officially challenge Cuomo.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
