Madonna paid tribute to her prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Nick Kamen, who died Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The pop star, 62, shared a photo of the two together on Twitter, writing<\/a>: \u201cIt breaks my heart to know you are gone. You were always such a kind sweet human and you suffered too much. Hope you are happ<\/a>ier wherever you are Nick Kamen.\u201d<\/p>\n

A friend of Kamen\u2019s family confirmed that the 59-year-old died after a long battle with bone marrow cancer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite undergoing several intense treatments, including stem cell treatment, his body gave in to cancer after being in remission. Kamen was being taken care of by his girlfriend Lucinda.<\/p>\n

Kamen rose to fame after his legendary Levi\u2019s ad when the then-18-year-old strip<\/a>ped down to his boxers. The ad led to a huge boost in sales for Levi\u2019s and came in fourth place in a countdown of the 100 greatest ads of all time.<\/p>\n

His modeling success allowed him to make his way into the music industry when he was contacted by Madonna about a song she had written with Stephen Bray.<\/p>\n

Nick Kamen went on to have a successful music career after he appeared in the lusty Levi\u2019s ad in 1984.<\/figcaption>

Kamen collaborated with Madge on the 1986 record, \u201cEach Time you Break my Heart,\u201d which climbed to the fifth spot on the UK singles chart.<\/p>\n

Madonna commented that she was inspired by his \u201ccharisma\u201d and \u201cbeautiful voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

After his partnership with the megastar, Kamen went on to have four records between 1987 and 1992 \u2014 including a cover of the Four Tops\u2019 1966 hit, \u201cLoving You Is Sweeter Than Ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other celebrities have paid tribute to the star, including his friend Boy George who wrote on Instagram<\/a>, \u201cR.I.P to the most beautiful and sweetest man Nick Kamen!\u201d<\/p>\n
