Maybe the mayor simply feels compelled to oppose President Trump, who wants the schools open. Yet \u201cstupid politics\u201d aside, research shows children, especially younger ones, are \u201cless likely to catch the \u00adinfection and less likely to spread the infection.\u201d Another \u201cschool season of cabin fever, Zoom-wrangling and behavioral backpedaling,\u201d meanwhile, will only hurt kids. Officials should \u201cmove heaven and earth to \u00adallow willing parents to send their children to class this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campus beat: Profs Cave to Political Winds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michigan State University professor Joseph Cesario and University of Maryland\u2019s David Johnson\u2019s 2019 study, which found no \u201cendemic police racism,\u201d made it through \u201cthree levels of editorial and peer review\u201d \u2014 yet, Heather Mac Donald observes at The Wall Street Journal, it \u201cset off a firestorm\u201d when she quoted it in a Journal op-ed, and Cesario and Johnson have now \u201cretracted their paper\u201d exclusively because they claim she \u201cmisused\u201d their findings. In truth, says Mac Donald, the \u201conly thing wrong with their article, and my citation of it, is that its conclusion is \u00adunacceptable in our current political climate.\u201d Alas, the retraction \u201cbodes ill for the development of knowledge\u201d \u2014 and will only further anti-cop hostility that is igniting \u201ca shocking rise in shootings in American cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Law prof: Why the Right\u2019s Jurists Defect<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe end of a Supreme Court term almost always sees one or more conservative justices\u201d defect from the right, Harvard Law School\u2019s Adrian Vermeule notes at The Washington Post. \u201cSo it went this year\u201d: Chief Justice John Roberts struck down abortion restrictions in Louisiana, as well as President Trump\u2019s executive order ending protections for Dreamers. And he and Justice Neil Gorsuch interpreted gender identity and orientation into the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Why do liberal justices always remain firm while the right\u2019s go wobbly? Because the justices, contends Vermeule, are bowing to \u201cour real, unwritten constitution\u201d: \u201ca particular set of commitments held passionately by urban professionals and .\u2009.\u2009. \u2018gentry liberals.\u2019\u200a\u201d These \u00adinclude \u201ca high rate of immigration\u201d and \u201cprotecting sexual expression.\u201d While not \u201cspelled out explicitly in law,\u201d these ideas \u201cexert a gravitational force that powerfully influences the justices\u2019 interpretations\u201d \u2014 including supposedly conservative justices, who themselves are from the gentry-liberal class, after all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cancel watch: Mobs Prove Their Power<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not ashamed to find myself in the company of the canceled,\u201d \u00addeclares Margaret Wente at Quillette, as it includes \u201csome of the finest minds in the world.\u201d Wente was forced to quit the Quadrangle Society, a literary group at the University of Toronto\u2019s Massey College, over her writing for the Globe and Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper, where her specialty \u201cwas deflating Canada\u2019s numerous liberal pieties.\u201d Critics painted her \u201cas a racist, anti-feminist heretic, whose mere presence inside Massey\u2019s halls would have presented a threat to students.\u201d As one student put it: \u201cHow are my friends and colleagues supposed to feel safe sitting across from her at dinner?\u201d The college head \u201choped this unpleasantness could be resolved by respectful dialogue,\u201d notes Wente, but \u201cmobs aren\u2019t interested in dialogue. The whole purpose of a mob is to punish heretics and prove to everyone where the power lies.\u201d It\u2019s all \u201creminiscent of China\u2019s Cultural Revolution,\u201d when \u201cstudents denounced their elders .\u2009.\u2009. before they were packed off to the pig farms for re-education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: Cancel Obama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Boeing recently forced out executive Niel Golightly because he argued against putting women in combat roles back in 1987. \u201cIf this sort of thing is our new standard for corporate behavior,\u201d muses National Review\u2019s Kevin D.
