Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment leaves the door open for the Fed to keep financial conditions easy for longer and delays the tapering and rate-hiking conversations for the time being,\u201d said Cliff Hodge, chief investment officer at Cornerstone Wealth.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Simply put, it\u2019s a case of bad <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> on the economy translating into good news for stocks.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. economy created just 266,000 jobs in April, the Labor Department reported, far short of the consensus forecast for a rise of 1 million. The unemployment rate also rose to 6.1% <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> U.S. economy was easier to put into a pandemic coma than to awaken from it<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is that it was a disappointing jobs report,\u201d said Jeff Schulze, investment strategist at ClearBridge Investments, in a phone interview. But Schulze still expects a booming economic reopening to favor cyclical and value stocks over coming months, with jobs growth still likely to accelerate in the months ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Major U.S. stock indexes, after a mixed start, were higher, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>-heavy Nasdaq Composite<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.88%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       bucking its recent underperformance to jump more than 1% in early activity. It ended the day up 0.9%, leaving it with a weekly fall of 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Interest rate-sensitive tech and growth stocks were somewhat reinvigorated as Treasurys rallied, pulling down yields, with the rate on the benchmark 10-year note<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">1.577%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       dipping below 1.5%. <\/p>\n<p>The 10-year yield later edged back into positive territory, ending the day up 1.5 basis point at 1.576%..<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" would lead the Federal Reserve to begin scaling back its accommodative monetary policy sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>The bigger threat to stocks heading into the report may have been a much stronger-than-expected number, which would have amplified worries over how monetary policy makers would react to signs of a rapidly overheating economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest concern for equity investors is overheating, and a rising bond yield. This would choke off the rally. Today the market has processed the bad economic news and it is a positive for the equity bull market,\u201d said David Donabedian, chief investment officer at CIBC Private Wealth, in emailed comments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See:<\/strong> Fed\u2019s Kashkari says April jobs report shows just how far economy has to go<\/p>\n<p>The fall in yields helped lift gold<br \/>\n        GC00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210034565\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.90%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       which\u00a0rose 0.9%, to settle at $1,831.30 an ounce on Comex, its highest finish since Feb. 10. A drop in bond yields can be a positive for gold by lowering the opportunity cost of holding nonyielding assets. A weaker dollar is also a boon, making commodities priced in dollars less expensive to users of other currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Cyclical and value stocks, which had solidly outperformed their growth-oriented peers over the past week, weren\u2019t exactly punished. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.66%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       bounced back from an early dip to rise 229.23 points, or 0.7%, to close at a record. The S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.74%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 0.7%, also ending at a record. The Dow saw a weekly rise of 2.7%, while the S&amp;P 500 rose 1.2%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also read:<\/strong> The April jobs report reveals two very different Americas<\/p>\n<p>Schulze and others remained confident in the scope for the economy to grow rapidly and for jobs growth to accelerate significantly in the months ahead, supported by trillions of dollars in fiscal stimulus, pent-up demand and an accommodative Fed, though the April data did raise questions about snags in the labor market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <\/strong>Stock market peak? The \u2018easy money\u2019 has been made, but room for more gains, strategists say<\/p>\n<p>Some of those should clear up as the school year comes to an end and supplemental unemployment benefits begin to expire, said Schulze. Meanwhile, despite rising earnings estimates for coming quarters, analysts are likely still underappreciating the scope for earnings growth, particularly for cyclically sensitive companies that are typically able to leverage economic growth in the early stages of an expansion, he said. It\u2019s an environment that also favors small-caps over large caps. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one is doubting the economic recovery,\u201d Donabedian said. \u201cToday\u2019s job report is a signal that there is nothing to worry about, we have a long way to a full recovery. The ICE U.S. Dollar Index<br \/>\n        DXY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598269\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.79%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       a measure of the currency against a basket of six major rivals, slumped 0.7% to trade at its lowest since Feb. 26, according to FactSet.<\/p>\n<p>A resumption of dollar weakness should have investors considering raising exposure to international equities, Schulze said. As Europe gets a handle on vaccine rollouts, its economy will also begin to spring back to life, putting an end to a run of U.S. outperformance.
