{"id":245096,"date":"2021-05-08T03:22:01","date_gmt":"2021-05-08T00:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/charter-school-backer-starts-pac-to-help-eric-adams-bid-for-mayor\/"},"modified":"2021-05-08T03:22:01","modified_gmt":"2021-05-08T00:22:01","slug":"charter-school-backer-starts-pac-to-help-eric-adams-bid-for-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/charter-school-backer-starts-pac-to-help-eric-adams-bid-for-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"#Charter school backer starts PAC to help Eric Adams&#8217; bid for mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Charter school backer starts PAC to help Eric Adams&#8217; bid for mayor<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A major charter school backer is launching a Super PAC to help elect Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams the next mayor of New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Sedlis, the head of the pro-charter advocacy group Students First NY, said she plans to raise $6 million for the pro-Adams Strong Leadership NYC independent expenditure group.<\/p>\n<p>The money will be used to buy TV and digital ads to shore up and expand Adams\u2019 base among black and Hispanic voters in the June 22 Democratic primary, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m starting this PAC because Eric Adams has a clear path to City Hall and I want to help him get there,\u201d Sedlis told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEric has been consistent that he supports schools that are working for kids. The goal is to scale up excellence,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have too many charter schools and district schools that are not meeting the standards that are needed \u2026 to talk about caps and non-caps is just the wrong conversation. What we\u2019re c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing is excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sedlis is banking on Adams being more flexible and open to compromise on charter schools compared to current Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has been stingy in providing space to the privately managed, publicly funded alternative schools in city buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The teachers\u2019 union opposes the expansion of charter schools, which are mostly non-union, as diverting resources from traditional public schools. Charter schools are exempt from union rules, typically have a longer school day and year and their students often outperform their counterparts in traditional public schools on the state\u2019s English and math standardized exams.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said Adams, who has supported charter schools, is trying to straddle a fine line by trying not to antagonize tends of thousands of educators work for the much larger New York City public school system. The United Federation of Teachers endorsed city Comptroller Scott Stringer for mayor, before a former campaign volunteer accused him of sexual misconduct. One recent survey showed Adams in the lead.<\/p>\n<p>Sedlis noted that other candidates \u2014 including Yang and McGuire \u2014 have independently run outside groups aiding their campaigns.
