From the right: GOP\u2019s Problem Isn\u2019t Liz Cheney<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Liz Cheney \u201chas taken every opportunity to assail\u201d President Donald Trump \u201cand the stolen-election narrative,\u201d so she has \u201clikely talked herself out of a Republican leadership position,\u201d predict the editors at National Review<\/a>. But the problem isn\u2019t that \u201cCheney is making obviously true statements\u201d; it\u2019s that \u201cRepublicans consider her obviously true statements to be controversial.\u201d It\u2019s not Cheney, after all, \u201cpreventing Republicans from moving on and repairing the wounds from the 2020 election. It is Trump himself.\u201d The movement to oust her is based purely on her insistence on debunking Trump\u2019s \u201cmendacious claims\u201d about a \u201cstolen\u201d election and refusing to vote against certifying Joe Biden\u2019s Electoral College victory. \u201cIt\u2019s a sad commentary on the state of the House GOP that this has now become a condition of advancement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Dems\u2019 Plan To \u2018Redesign\u2019 America<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Democratic Party has given up on the American dream,\u201d laments The Wall Street Journal\u2019s Daniel Henninger<\/a>. President Biden\u2019s proposals, notably his American Families Plan, would \u201credesign\u201d America, which raises the questions: Is \u201cupward mobility still important\u201d? And if so, should it happ<\/a>en \u201cthrough Washington or individual effort\u201d? Liberals are trying to \u201cdisplace the country\u2019s originating idea of individual opportunity with a broad birth-to-death entitlement state.\u201d Yet welfare \u201ceroded the American dream for many black Americans by disincentivizing upward mobility,\u201d and now \u201cBiden Democrats\u201d want to spread this \u201cmalgovernance\u201d \u2014 without even asking if that\u2019s what Americans want.<\/p>\n

Hypocrisy watch: Biden Dodged His \u2018Fair Share\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHow can someone who avoided more than $500,000 in taxes to fund his luxury lifestyle demand that others \u2018pay their fair share\u2019 under massive tax hikes?\u201d wonders Chris Jacobs at The Federalist<\/a>. Addressing Congress, President Biden used the words \u201cfair share\u201d five times to justify proposed tax hikes needed for \u201cthe biggest expansion of government since\u201d FDR. But on leaving the vice presidency, \u201che and his wife Jill exploited a tax loophole of questionable legality\u201d: They classified \u201c$13.5 million in book and speech income as profits from their two corporations, rather than as cash wages,\u201d letting them \u201cavoid paying $513,540 in payroll taxes\u201d that fund Medicare and ObamaCare. Candidate Biden ran ads saying, \u201cObamaCare is personal to me.\u201d Except, it seems, \u201cwhen it comes to paying the bill.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ex-cop: Rights Groups Are \u2018Tarring\u2019 Police<\/strong><\/p>\n

At City Journal, ex-cop Ari Maas expresses<\/a> \u201cdismay\u201d at \u201ccivil rights\u201d groups making \u201cfalse claims about police.\u201d A \u201cthird-generation Jewish American\u201d whose grandparents had to flee the Nazis, Maas \u201cpersonally benefited from the hard work\u201d of groups that fight discrimination. Yet their laudable records haven\u2019t stopped the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center \u201cfrom painting every police officer with the same broad brush.\u201d When a cop takes a life, it\u2019s not, \u201cas the ADL contends, evidence of a system that \u2018target[s] and devalue[s] black, brown and indigenous lives.\u201d Statements by other groups, like the American Civil Liberties Union, which claims racism \u201cpervades law enforcement,\u201d are similarly \u201cdangerous.\u201d By \u201ctarring the entire policing profession,\u201d these groups \u201cweaken their ability to help true victims of civil rights abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Centrist: Big Tech Sees Free Speech a Danger<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt may be too harsh to expect anything more from a board that literally monitors one of the world\u2019s largest censorship programs,\u201d Jonathan Turley writes at Fox News of the Facebook board\u2019s ruling<\/a> \u201cthat it was absolutely right to suspend Trump but [Facebook<\/a>] may want to reconsider the permanent ban, given the absence of any objective standard to support it.\u201d The flaw: Facebook and its board assume \u201cit can and should censor views deemed \u2018misinformation\u2019 or dangerous,\u201d that \u201ccensorship is justified\u201d and \u201ccontent neutrality is dangerous\u201d \u2014 and Twitter and other social-media firms agree, as do top Democrats. Beware: \u201cPrivate companies can still destroy free speech through private censorship,\u201d especially when they\u2019ve won \u201cimmunity from lawsuit under the view that they would be neutral providers.\u201d<\/p>\n
