She\u2019s one lucky duck this Mother\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

A family of ducklings were spared from Big App<\/a>le traffic on Sunday \u2014 thanks to a \u201cquack\u201d response from the NYPD.<\/p>\n

New York\u2019s Finest were called to the scene in Lenox Hill to corral a dozen of the youngins in a box shortly before 11 a.m. \u2014 while letting their mama follow her babies\u2019 peeps back to their home in Central Park.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unusual,\u201d said David Barrett, founder of Manhattan Bird Alert, who shot Twitter video<\/a> of the heart-warming rescue after calling cops to step in.<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cThey general<\/a>ly want to stay in water. They are not keen on wandering outside of good habitats. But, you know, ducks do crazy things sometimes. And that\u2019s what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police caught up to the daring ducks on East 69th Street after they crossed Lexington Avenue \u2014 more than three busy avenues from the park. <\/p>\n

Barrett said Manhattan traffic wasn\u2019t the only danger the ducklings faced on their wayward waddle through Manhattan \u2014 they could\u2019ve also been attacked by dogs on the sidewalk.<\/p>\n

He said police initially sought to put the mother duck inside their squad car to drive the whole clan back to the park \u2014 but that she was less than cooperative.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when they came up with the idea of letting her follow her ducklings instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe solution they came up with \u2014 which I think was a brilliant one \u2014 was not to wait for the mother to fly into the police car, which it just didn\u2019t seem to want to do,\u201d Barrett said. \u201cBut to take the carrier outside of the car and carry it into Central Park and let the mother follow along. That worked out very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear how long the family of ducks had been wandering outside of the park. <\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not the first time it\u2019s happened \u2014 last year, a fluffy flock wandered outside of Morningside Park on the West Side.<\/p>\n

The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
