I\u2019ve had to turn it off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When you live in New York these days, you don\u2019t need an app to warn you about menace every five minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all around you. You have to be careful how you walk, dodging the brown stuff, looking straight ahead, not sideways, at the man with his pants around his ankles, not invading the privacy of people passed out on the footpath, but still with situational awareness at high alert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t take the short cut through the Marriott parking lot, just in case. Don\u2019t get caught in the narrow chute under scaffolding on Broadway where you have nowhere to escape if an unfriendly comes your way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tour buses had started to make a comeback in recent weeks, but are the tourists Broadway needs really going to brave the bullets of Times Square?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>le-shooting in broad daylight was shocking. Three innocent tourists \u2014 including a 4-year-old girl \u2014 were struck by stray bullets when a dispute broke out between four men, reportedly involving an illegal CD vendor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" alt=\"NYPD officers in Times Square following the shooting on May 8, 2021.\" class=\"wp-image-18197691 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/Three-people-shot-in-Times-Square-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/Three-people-shot-in-Times-Square-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/Three-people-shot-in-Times-Square-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/Three-people-shot-in-Times-Square-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/05\/Three-people-shot-in-Times-Square-2.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>NYPD officers in Times Square following the shooting on May 8, 2021.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom for New York Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just four weeks ago, another tourist from Kansas City was shot in the shoulder by a stray bullet nearby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As I write, on Sunday afternoon, the Citizen app is reporting the following police incidents in my Midtown neighborhood: \u201cReport of Armed Robbery,\u201d \u201cWoman Assaulted Person,\u201d \u201cMan Armed with Bottle Yelling at Woman,\u201d \u201cMan Brandished Switchblade During Argument,\u201d \u201cPerson Assaulted,\u201d \u201cMan Fatally Stabbed\u201d and \u201cPerson Robbed by Man.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A little further afield, the reports include \u201cMan Swinging Sword at Park\u201d in Queens, \u201cMan Robbed by Teenager\u201d on the Upper West Side, \u201cWoman with Knife on Q Train,\u201d \u201cMan Fatally Stabbed in Longwood,\u201d \u201cWoman Robbed at Gunpoint\u201d in The Bronx, \u201cPerson Carjacked at Gunpoint\u201d in Queens, \u201cAmazon Driver Assaulted\u201d in The Bronx, \u201cPerson Stabbed\u201d in The Bronx, \u201cShots Fired\u201d in The Bronx, \u201cPerson Robbed at Gunpoint\u201d in Queens, \u201cMan Brandishes Switchblade During Argument Over Mask On F-train,\u201d \u201cArmed Man Attempting to fight T-Mobile Staff\u201d in East Harlem, \u201cArmed Residential Break-in With Guns in Queens.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All is not well in the Big Apple. But at least we\u2019re wearing our masks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the subway, lunatics are pushing people onto the tracks, and muggers are sucker-punching women for their bags.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A subway conductor was stabbed in the face on a J train in Brooklyn. It\u2019s frightening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet de Blasio\u2019s answer is to sneer at our fear. If you were a \u201creal New Yorker\u201d you wouldn\u2019t be afraid, he said last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a real New Yorker who lives in the city and has taken the subway all my life, I wouldn\u2019t hesitate at all to take the subway.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last time I looked, de Blasio grew up in Cambridge, Mass., back when he used his real name Warren Wilhelm Jr., so he\u2019s not in a strong position to decide who qualifies as a \u201creal\u201d or fake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> is that de Blasio\u2019s term ends this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now we have a chance to elect a proper mayor \u2014 but that means voting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Guess why de Blasio is in Gracie Mansion? Because 84 percent of New Yorkers couldn\u2019t be bothered voting. As a black man who has championed the cause of police reform for decades, he also has credibility with Black Lives Matter activists and the authority to stand up to their excesses. He knows how government works in this city, in his role as Brooklyn borough president, and he has mastered the dark arts of machine politics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But his primary attraction is that he is the only mayoral candidate confident enough to push back on the anti-cop movement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing angered me more and concerned me more than when we allowed people to pour water on police officers [last summer],\u201d he said last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He understands that \u201cpublic safety is the prerequisite to prosperity in this city\u201d, and he has a plan to get guns off the street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Within hours of Saturday\u2019s shooting, Adams held a feisty press conference in Times Square.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAm I the only candidate that\u2019s running for mayor that understands that we can\u2019t go back to violence and we can\u2019t act like this is not happening in front of us,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hallelujah. Adams\u2019 law-and-order stance has propelled him to the front of the pack of mayoral hopefuls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for voter registration is May 28. Primary Day is June 22.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Do your civic duty. That plan is working.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So the \u201cplan from the beginning\u201d was to invite floods of illegal immigrants to cross the border into America and wave them through as fast as possible to make room for more.
