{"id":246725,"date":"2021-05-10T21:32:41","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T18:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/people-are-getting-choked-up-watching-this-extra-gum-commercial\/"},"modified":"2021-05-10T21:32:41","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T18:32:41","slug":"people-are-getting-choked-up-watching-this-extra-gum-commercial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/people-are-getting-choked-up-watching-this-extra-gum-commercial\/","title":{"rendered":"#People are getting choked up watching this Extra gum commercial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#People are getting choked up watching this Extra gum commercial<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>This one hit <em>hard<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>An epic new commercial for Wrigley\u2019s Extra brand gum that celebrates the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 is giving cooped up viewers <em>all the feels<\/em> \u2014 in a way that only a gum advertisement could. <\/p>\n<p>The 154-second ad <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Adweek\/status\/1391045290161999874?s=20\">has gone viral<\/a> since it debuted earlier this month \u2014 for good reason<\/p>\n<p>Because there\u2019s only one appropriate reaction to a commercial narrative with <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>s that play on our collective loneliness and skin hunger during the pandemic, against the well-timed placement of C\u00e9line Dion\u2019s 1996 version of \u201cIt\u2019s All Coming Back to Me Now\u201d \u2014 and that\u2019s tears.<\/p>\n<p>Since the ad dropped, playing in various lengths on TV and digital platforms, viewers have taken comfort in its message on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCried at a gum commercial. I didn\u2019t see this happening for me today, but here we are,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LizPittman_\/status\/1389997678340186113?s=20\">tweeted Liz Pittman<\/a>, a Canadian fan in Victoria.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"\/>Filmed in Santiago, Chile, the ad opens with people \u201cin the not too distant future,\u201d emerging from lockdown and social isolation in comically exaggerated ways: the hair is long, beards are unkempt, pizza boxes are stacked high and cars are covered in dust. Cry. Laugh. Cry again but mostly love! With C\u00e9line Dion to boot. Bravo to Wrigley\u2019s Extra Gum for capturing our inner selves,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MartineMontreal\/status\/1389635430325395457?s=20\">said Montreal-based writer Martine St. Victor<\/a> on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m at the \u2018gum commercial made me chuckle then get teary eyed\u2019 stage of the pandemic. I miss you, people,\u201d said Canadian CEO Carole Saab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not crying at a gum commercial, you\u2019re crying at a gum commercial,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebZam\/status\/1389922534318030850?s=20\">said Rebecca Zamon<\/a>,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebZam\/status\/1389922534318030850?s=20\"> <\/a>from Toronto, on Twitter \u2014 indicating there may be a correlation between Canadians and sentimentality. Or C\u00e9line Dion. Or beards. <\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaurenPelley\/status\/1389941954327322624?s=20\">Added yet another Canadian, CBC journalist Lauren Pelley<\/a>, \u201cFriend sent this my way this morning, and I\u2019m now laugh-crying at my desk. Well played, gum company, well played.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All speculations of the Canadian psyche aside, the ingenious ad weaves in much of the post-pandemic discourse in the media. Employers and employees are currently grappling with how and when to return to the office and other places of work \u2014 and whether anyone even wants to.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, it\u2019s long been speculated that the end of the pandemic would prompt a return of the \u201croaring \u201920s,\u201d the likes of which the country first saw just after the flu epidemic of 1918, according to Yale professor Nicholas Christakis, who told the Guardian recently to expect virtue to take a backseat in favor of rampant \u201csexual licentiousness.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Eager revelers on social media have already dubbed the forthcoming season \u201cthe <em>whoring<\/em> \u201920s\u201d and \u201cShot Girl Summer,\u201d inspired by 2019\u2019s viral Megan Thee Stallion song \u201cHot Girl Summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another recent tweet, Glamour\u2019s editor-in-chief Samantha Barry suggested that Wrigley\u2019s Extra is way ahead of the \u201cslutty summer\u201d forecast.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/samanthabarry\/status\/1390890469077438465?s=20\">Said Barry<\/a>, \u201cMy summer plans brought to you by this epic ad\u2026EXTRA Gum.\u201d\n            <\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
