\n The Brooklyn lawyer accused of tossing a Molotov cocktail into an NYPD vehicle blamed Mayor Bill de Blasio for not holding back cops for their own protection less than an hour before the incident, according to a video interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this protest is a long time coming,\u201d lawyer Urooj Rahman said near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn around 12:15 a.m. May 30.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis s\u2013t won\u2019t ever stop unless we f\u2013kin\u2019 take it all down. And that\u2019s why the anger is being expressed tonight in this way,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

During the four-minute interview, Rahman claimed to be unaware that cops had been hurt by protesters during violent clashes sparked by the police killing of George Floyd \u2014 but said de Blasio should have held back the NYPD \u201cthe way that the mayor in Minneapolis did.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the mayor should have done that, because if he really cared about his police officers, he should have realized that it\u2019s not worth them getting hurt,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rahman was then caught on surveillance video just before 1 a.m. that day lighting a Molotov cocktail and tossing it into an empty police vehicle near the 88th Precinct, according to court papers.<\/p>\n

Rahman, 31, said in the video before the molotov incident that violence against cops was \u201cunderstandable,\u201d adding, \u201cpeople are angry because the police are never held accountable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has got to stop. And the only way they hear, the only way they hear us is through violence, through the means that they use,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to use the massa\u2019s [master\u2019s] tools, that\u2019s what my friend always says.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rahman \u2014 who spelled out her first name at the end of the interview \u2014 spoke while covering her face with the same black-and-white headdress that she wore in a photo that Brooklyn federal prosecutors say shows her clutching a Molotov cocktail in the passenger seat of a minivan driven by fellow lawyer and co-defendant Colinford Mattis, 32.<\/p>\n

Rahman was also wearing the same T-shirt \u2014 which shows a clenched fist clutching a strand of barbed wire and the words \u201cTHE STRUGGLE CONTINUES REGARDLESS\u201d \u2014 in which she was arrested.<\/p>\n

She and Mattis were chased down and allegedly caught with the makings for more homemade explosives, which the feds say they\u2019d been offering to other protesters \u201cin furtherance of more destruction and violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her video interview, Rahman claimed that protesters were \u201cnot targeting random people, they\u2019re targeting precincts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a way to show their pain, their anger,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rahman and Mattis were both released on bail Monday over the objections of prosecutors, who have filed an app<\/a>eal to have them locked up pending trial.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re each charged with one count of damaging a police vehicle by fire and explosives, which carries a maximum 20 years in prison and a mandatory minimum of five.<\/p>\n

Neither Rahman\u2019s lawyers nor City Hall immedia<\/a>tely returned requests for comment Friday afternoon.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
