“#Andra Day Opens Up About Overcoming Her Porn & Sex Addiction!

\nWhen it came to portraying legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday<\/strong> in The United States vs. Billie Holiday<\/em>, Andra Day<\/strong> wanted to keep it clean.<\/p>\n

The Golden Globe<\/strong> winning actress opened up about her critically acclaimed performance in a new interview with InStyle<\/em> for the mag\u2019s June issue, in which she revealed that she deliberately chose not to sexualize the music icon \u2014 because she had personally just overcome a battle with porn and sex addiction.<\/p>\n

The Rise Up<\/em> singer revealed:<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want any element of sexualization. I had come out of something in my own life \u2014 dealing with porn addiction, sex addiction. I\u2019m being very, very candid with you because I\u2019m not the only one. But I knew I wanted all of that very much gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow, how brave of her to speak about it so candidly!<\/p>\n

Thankfully, Day said she\u2019s now in a healthier place, noting that playing Billie was an empowering experience. She added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel now, after playing Billie, that I\u2019m honoring her, and the strength that is femininity. I\u2019m definitely in a healthier place to enjoy that because I\u2019m outside of the addiction, if you will. So, yeah, it\u2019s been really fun, because it\u2019s been very new for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The star has also been in a new phase in life after losing weight for the role \u2014 a transformation she said came with both pros and cons.<\/p>\n

Andra added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had people ask me, \u2018Do you feel prettier now that you\u2019ve lost weight?\u2019 I was like, \u2018Hell, no! I liked being juicy! I was cool.\u2019 But I do like the way [the weight loss] feels on my body, I like the way it feels on my joints. You do notice a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The singer and actress went on to explain how beauty \u201ctakes on so many different forms,\u201d musing:<\/p>\n

\u201cBesides, to me, there is no such thing as a classic beauty. Beauty takes on so many different forms, in different times and depending on the nation. It\u2019s just about being confident, loving yourself, and understanding your value.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For Andra, portraying Billie made her value herself in a way she hadn\u2019t before. She shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it has to do with Billie. It was almost like she said, \u2018Sis, we\u2019re going to have to close this, because I have to survive.\u2019 She opened me up to valuing myself in a way that I hadn\u2019t fully before.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
