\nDespite Demon Slayer<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s home country continuing to shut down theaters until at least the end of the month, meaning that Rengoku got a very subdued birthday on May 10, the rest of the world\u2013especially the United States\u2013continue to give Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> an unprecedented showing across the globe.<\/p>\n


\nIn Japan, as of May 9, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> has brought in 39.92 billion yen (US$366.7 million)<\/strong> on the back of 28.9 million tickets sold, adding another<\/span><\/a> 40 million yen (US$367,922) <\/strong>since last Wednesday. This is the lowest reported number of box office takings since the film began, though only represents four days during a State of Emergency that sees most theaters closed<\/span><\/a> in the country\u2019s most profitable cinemas.\u00a0<\/p>\n


\nFans of the series<\/a> were hoping to see Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> reach 40 billion yen by the time Rengoku\u2019s birthday came about, as did Aniplex, who was planning<\/span><\/a> a special distribution to celebrate the Hashira\u2019s birth. But the State of Emergency got both the milestone and celebrates delayed. They\u2019ll both happ<\/a>en, but it\u2019ll just take some time.<\/p>\n

\nIn the United States, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> is shaping up to as well as it can in COVID-times. According to the US box office tracking site The Numbers<\/span><\/a>, Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em>, which is in its third week in US cinemas, came in second over the last weekend behind the newly released Wrath of Man<\/strong><\/em>, with the Ufotable-produced film bringing in US$3.05 million<\/strong> for a three-week total of US$39.60 million<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n


\nIn terms of the US anime<\/a> box office, Mugen Train <\/strong><\/em>continues to be No. 3 behind Pokemon: The Movie 2000<\/strong><\/em> at 2nd place with US$43,758,684<\/strong>, and Pok\u00e9mon: The First Movie <\/strong><\/em>at 1st place with US$85,744,662<\/strong>.<\/p>\n


\nAround the world, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em> has brought in US$465.46 million\u00a0(51.5 billion yen) <\/strong>at the box office. This means the film may have taken the top spot of the highest-grossing film of 2020 released films from the Chinese film The Eight Hundred<\/strong><\/em>, but some websites are reporting the film to have brought in US$460 million, such as the Golden Globes<\/span><\/a>, while others, <\/span>like Forbes<\/span><\/a>, estimating the box office gross much higher at US$472 million. So at this time, it\u2019s hard to call that record yet, but that record will be Demon Slayer\u2019s <\/strong><\/em>soon.<\/p>\n

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>opened in Japanese cinemas on October 16 and had the\u00a0best opening weekend<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Japanese cinema history, becoming the\u00a0highest-grossing film<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Japanese theaters ever, the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film worldwide, and the second-highest-grossing film of 2020.\u00a0You can\u00a0<\/span>read our review of the film here<\/span><\/a>. In North America,\u00a0Mugen Train<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0made its stop in theaters on\u00a0April 23 both dubbed and subbed formats, with a digital release of the film on June 22, becoming the first anime film<\/span><\/a> to top the US box office since Pok\u00e9mon: The First Movie<\/strong><\/em> in 1999.<\/p>\n

The Ufotable-produced anime film\u00a0continues to adapt\u00a0the manga series by\u00a0Koyoharu Gotouge<\/strong>, which saw a TV anime series adaptation in 2019.\u00a0The\u00a0Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0TV anime series streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired.
