\nFans of J. Cole relish in reminding each other\u00a0on the internet and offline about how his last three album releases 2014 Forest Hills Drive<\/em>, 4 Your Eyez Only<\/em> and KOD<\/em> have gone platinum with no features in their tracklists.<\/p>\n

But the North Carolina-bred rap star wants his legacy marked by his willingness to collaborate with other Hip Hop artists, as exemplified by his remarkable 2019 run as a featured guest on several hit singles.<\/p>\n

In J. Cole\u2019s\u00a0App<\/a>lying Pressure: The Off-Season Documentary<\/em>\u00a0released Monday (May 10), the film\u2019s director Scott Lazer<\/a>\u00a0asks him at the 10-minute mark to begin\u00a0\u201cChapter Four: Applying Pressure\u201d of the\u00a0expos\u00e9 if Cole approached his string of five featured verses from that year as his own album.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, because it was a mindstate,\u201d Cole said. \u201cWhen you put yourself in uncomfortable moments, you find out a lot about yourself. And usually you find out that you\u2019re capable of rising to that bar that\u2019s set by the uncomfortable situation. So what\u2019s something I could do? When somebody brings you a feature, say yes. I was looking at it as an opportunity for growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
