Ellen DeGeneres is ending her talk show after 19 seasons, more than 3,000 episodes and a flurry of toxic workplace allegations. <\/p>\n

The beloved-turned-beleaguered talk show host is calling it quits amid the claims of unkind behavior and bullying<\/a>, as well as reports of a significant dip<\/a> in sponsors and ratings. <\/p>\n

\u201cEllen is ending when her contract is up at the end of the 2022 19th\u00a0Season,\u201d a source close to the star told The Post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Another production insider told The Post: \u201cThe truth is there\u2019s a lot of gratitude among her staff that she didn\u2019t just quit after last summer, and has kept them all employed this season during a pandemic. And now, they all get to work for a whole other season next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGeneres herself confirmed the news<\/a> \u2014 which was first reported <\/a>by the Daily Mail \u2014 to the Hollywood Reporter, saying the exit was planned \u2014 and it comes on her own terms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged \u2013 and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it\u2019s just not a challenge anymore,\u201d DeGeneres, 63, told the industry outlet. <\/p>\n

Sources tell Page Six that her slot may be filled by singer Kelly Clarkson<\/a>, 39, whose own talk show airs after DeGeneres\u2019 3 p.m. spot.<\/p>\n

DeGeneres said the plan to end after 19 seasons had been in place well before claims surfaced of her behavior behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was going to stop after Season 16,\u201d but pushback from \u201caffiliates and the stations\u201d had her settling for three more seasons, she said. \u201cThat\u2019s been the plan all along.\u201d <\/p>\n

This news<\/a> comes amid ongoing drama the embattled comedia<\/a>n has faced, including allegations of bullying and bad behavior behind the scenes<\/a> that broke over the summer of 2020 \u2014 which contrasted with DeGeneres\u2019 bubbly onscreen persona. <\/p>\n

In the interview Wednesday, DeGeneres denied that she was ending the show over the allegations. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn\u2019t have come back this season,\u201d she said. \u201cSo, it\u2019s not why I\u2019m stopping.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hearing former staff share stories of behind-the-scenes behavior did affect her personally, she said. The claims \u201cdestroyed me, honestly. I\u2019d be lying if I said it didn\u2019t.\u201d However, she went on to criticize today\u2019s cancel culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis culture we\u2019re living is [is one where] no one can make mistakes. And I don\u2019t want to general<\/a>ize because there are some bad people out there and those people shouldn\u2019t work again but, in general, the culture today is one where you can\u2019t learn and grow, which is, as human beings, what we\u2019re here to do.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, ratings for her show dropped significantly. And on July 31, it was reported that the host\u00a0was thinking of abandoning\u00a0her star-studded enterprise, which has taped at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank since its premiere. <\/p>\n

Various celebs have spoken out <\/a>in support of DeGeneres, including Katy Perry<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In September 2020, DeGeneres addressed the allegations that she\u2019s created a \u201ctoxic workplace\u201d environment in an opening monologue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,\u201d she said. \u201cI learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people that were affected. I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeGeneres told THR she may consider doing a movie next, but will be mostly focusing on her conservation work. And though she distanced herself from the claims of toxic workplace culture, she did acknowledge a lesson gleaned from the accusations. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou realize that every single encounter means something. And if, for whatever reason, one day I wasn\u2019t dancing when I\u2019m in the dry cleaners or I didn\u2019t smile at somebody, it\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, did that affect somebody? Was that what they meant?\u2019 \u201d she said. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know, but I know that I\u2019m just a person with a lot of different emotions and I struggle with depression and with anxiety. So, every day I\u2019m not super smiley, but my intention is never to hurt anyone.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
