\u201cAmerican Idol\u201d top-five finalist Caleb Kennedy has left the show after a video surfaced showing him next to someone wearing what app<\/a>ears to be a Ku Klux Klan hood.<\/p>\n

A representative for the show confirmed to The Post that Kennedy will no longer be moving forward in the competition.<\/p>\n

The singer, 16, posted a statement<\/a> about his departure on Instagram Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cHey y\u2019all, this is gonna be a bit of a surprise but I am no longer gonna be on\u00a0\u2018American Idol,\u2019\u201d he wrote. \u201cThere was a video that surfaced on the internet and it displayed actions that were not meant to be taken in that way. I was younger and did not think about the actions, but that\u2019s not an excuse. I wanna say sorry to all my fans and everyone who I have let down. I\u2019ll be taking a little time off social media<\/a> to better myself, but saying that, I know this has hurt and disappointed a lot of people and made people lose respect for me. I\u2019m so sorry! I pray that I can one day regain your trust in who I am and have your respect! Thank you for supporting me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The remaining finalists include Willie Spence, Grace Kinstler, Chayce Beckham and Casey Bishop.<\/p>\n

Kennedy\u2019s mother, Anita Guy, gave a\u00a0statement to MSN<\/a> claiming that the video was taken when Kennedy was 12 and inspired by a movie he had seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hate this has happened and how Caleb is being portrayed by people online,\u201d Guy said. \u201cThis video was taken after Caleb had watched the movie \u2018The Strangers: Prey at Night\u2019 and they were imitating those characters. It had nothing to do with the Ku Klux Klan, but I know that\u2019s how it looks. Caleb doesn\u2019t have a racist bone in his body. He loves everyone and has friends of all races.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Kennedy had posted an upbeat message on Instagram, thanking his followers for their support. \u201cHey guys! So glad to have y\u2019all on the journey with me through\u00a0#Americanidol,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. \u201cAlso really happy to be in the studio working on songs!! I love you guys so much!!\u201d<\/p>\n

On the most recent episode this past Sunday, May 9, Kennedy performed a throaty version of the Coldplay song \u201cViolet Hill,\u201d plus an original tune, \u201cMama Said,\u201d according to Heavy.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mid-afternoon Wednesday, the show posted a Twitter teaser<\/a> that Billie Eilish\u2019s brother Finneas would mentor finalists in the upcoming episode on Sunday, but it did not mention Kennedy\u2019s move.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the only shocking exit this season on \u201cAmerican Idol.\u201d Wyatt Pike, 20, left the competition series<\/a> after making the top 12, citing \u201cpersonal reasons.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
