We\u2019ve joked about it time and time again: what if\u00a0Fast and Furious\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>went to space? After all, the action franchise has escalated so far beyond the bounds of its gritty street racing beginnings \u2014 the latest films have basically turned them into world class superspies \u2014 so why not? Well, after eight films of NOS, bank heists, and sending cars flying out of airplanes,\u00a0Fast and Furious<\/em> may finally be going supersonic.\u00a0Fast and Furious<\/em> star\u00a0Ludacris<\/strong>, who has starred in six of the films including the upcoming ninth installment, hints that\u00a0F9<\/em><\/strong> might be going to\u2026outer space.<\/p>\n

F9<\/em> in space? Could it possibly be true? That\u2019s what Ludacris hinted during an interview with\u00a0Thursday\u2019s SiriusXM\u2019s\u00a0Jess Cagle and Julia Cunningham.<\/em> While speaking with Cunningham, who offered ideas on how the blockbuster series<\/a> could keep topping itself, Ludacris hinted that her idea of taking\u00a0Fast and Furious<\/em> to space might not be far off:<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say that you are very intuitive, because you said something right, but I\u2019m not going to give it away.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cunningham tried to get Ludacris to elaborate, but the rapp<\/a>er and actor played coy.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t know what you said,\u201d Ludacris teased.<\/p>\n

The rumor that\u00a0Fast and Furious<\/em> would eventually go to space has been going around for ages, at first as a joke, then as a serious possibility. Back in 2017, series screenwriter Chris Morgan said he would entertain the possibility, teasing, \u201cThe only way I\u2019d go to space is if I had something so good.\u201d But as recently as last year, Morgan seemed warmer to the idea, saying in an interview with THR,\u00a0\u201cI will say \u2014 what\u2019s the best way to answer this? \u2014 you\u2019ll have to wait and see. Listen, as long as the stakes were set up correctly, then I\u2019m down for whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will be a little longer until we get to see\u00a0F9<\/em> break the sound barrier, as the Universal film was pushed back from its initial May 2020 release date to April 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Ludacris added that the extra time may be a blessing in disguise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat just gives the editors a little more time to perfect it even more. So, now I can only imagine what\u2019s going to happen,\u201d he said. \u201cHypothetically, if there is a\u00a0Fast 10<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a011<\/em>, and you understand the time the creatives, the people who are writing these scripts right now have to make these the best possible sequels of all time \u2014 I can\u2019t even imagine. That is what I am thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

When\u00a0F9<\/em> hits theaters on April 2, 2021<\/strong>, it better be something out of this world \u2014 literally.<\/p>\n
