“#Spencer Dinwiddie eyes Nets playoff return, will opt out<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Injured point guard Spencer Dinwiddie said he wants to return for the Nets\u2019 postseason run, marking the fastest ACL recovery ever.<\/p>\n

In a far-ranging interview with Forbes,<\/a> Dinwiddie also said he intends to opt out of his contact this offseason, although that doesn\u2019t preclude a return to Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

After suffering a partially torn right ACL on Dec. 28, Dinwiddie is well ahead of the usual eight-to-12 month recovery timetable. And while the guard clearly won\u2019t be ready when the playoffs tip off May 22, he\u2019s hoping to get cleared for basketball activities over the next several weeks. An optimistic five-month timeframe could line up with the Eastern Conference Finals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know Brooklyn and (general<\/a> manager) Sean (Marks) definitely wouldn\u2019t want me giving out anything official,\u201d Dinwiddie said, adding unofficially, \u201cI want to return for the playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you could be the fastest ACL recovery in history at five months, that puts you at June and gives you several weeks to get in shape,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s just me throwing something at the wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Dinwiddie was complimentary of Nets orthopedic surgeon Dr. Riley Williams \u2013 who performed the procedure at HSS \u2013 and the communication between Marks, the Nets performance staff and his rehab team in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Dinwiddie also was transparent about opting out of the final $12.3 million season of his three-year deal to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m gonna be more than healthy by the time free agency starts, so just from a dollars perspective you kind of have to,\u201d Dinwiddie said. \u201c$12 million isn\u2019t market value for a starting point guard. It\u2019s probably about half, 20-25 (million.) So obviously it\u2019s pretty concrete that I\u2019m gonna opt out.\u201d<\/p>\n
