{"id":249705,"date":"2021-05-14T08:58:48","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T05:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/knicks-derrick-rose-sits-vs-spurs-just-needed-a-day\/"},"modified":"2021-05-14T08:58:48","modified_gmt":"2021-05-14T05:58:48","slug":"knicks-derrick-rose-sits-vs-spurs-just-needed-a-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/knicks-derrick-rose-sits-vs-spurs-just-needed-a-day\/","title":{"rendered":"#Knicks&#8217; Derrick Rose sits vs. Spurs: &#8216;Just needed a day&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Knicks&#8217; Derrick Rose sits vs. Spurs: &#8216;Just needed a day&#8217;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The minutes have finally caught up with Knicks point guard Derrick Rose, who missed Thursday\u2019s win over the Spurs with what the team termed a sprained ankle but was more about resting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust needed a day,\u2019\u2019 Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said after surviving the Spurs, 102-98, at the Garden. \u201cWe knew we were getting a couple of guys [Immanuel Quickley, Alec Burks] back so we thought it would be good to give him the rest.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rose, 32, could\u2019ve played, though Thibodeau admitted Rose hurt himself Tuesday against the Lakers when he logged a season high 39 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe tweaked it in the Laker <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>,\u2019\u2019 Thibodeau said. \u201cHe did some stuff pregame. They are 22-11 when he plays.<\/p>\n<p>The Knicks survived this time because Burks had a monster 30-point night off the bench, forced into a point guard role because of Payton\u2019s ineffectiveness offensively.<\/p>\n<p>        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Podcast\" width=\"100%\" height=\"188px\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.acast.com\/big-apple-buckets\/knicks-finalpushforno.4seed?accentColor=2a2a2a&amp;bgColor=f6f6f6&amp;font-family=proxima%20nova&amp;logo=false&amp;secondaryColor=cc3333\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;\"><br \/>\n        <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Thibodeau was asked directly if it may be time to start Rose if he returns Saturday against Charlotte. Thibodeau danced but seemed to hold firm. He indicated likely not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe like our depth,\u2019\u2019 Thibodeau said. \u201cWe have versatility. Each game tells you something different. Whatever you need, you have the answer either starting or on the bench. And so that\u2019s what I like about the team, the depth of the team.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Reading between the lines, Thibodeau can adjust if Payton is not having a strong night, with Rose, Burks, Quickley and even Frank Ntilikina in a pinch.<\/p>\n<p>Rose averaged 31 minutes during the six-game western road <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>. He was under a minutes restriction of about 25 minutes when he played for the Pistons earlier this season. He didn\u2019t fare well defensively late in the Lakers\u2019 loss and was the goat on the Wesley Matthews offensive putback.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Payton has started but his minutes have dwindled \u2014 along with his game. Payton has combined for four points in the past three games and has been a minus in the majority of the last 14 games. He didn\u2019t play more than 18 minutes in any game on the road trip.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>With his Kentucky coach John Calipari at the Garden, Quickley had a dud game, scoreless in an 0-for-4 performance with a turnover. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>Backup center Taj Gibson registered four blocks. \u2026 Longtime Knicks broadcaster Mike Breen, who also is the lead guy at ESPN\/ABC, will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., on Friday.
