While this feature is traditionally associated with PC platforms like Steam, Microsoft\u2019s latest consoles can also take advantage of the feature.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Bother_Preloading\"><\/span>Why Bother Preloading?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Games are often ready well in advance of release, even in the era of day-one patches. If you have an unreliable or slow internet connection or are anticipating high demand for a particular upcoming title, preloading can be the difference between playing on release day and staring at a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download<\/a> progress bar.<\/p>\n<p>Even if a game has a large day-one patch, many of the base assets will be unchanged. Having the bulk of the game downloaded and ready to go, with only a patch left to get on day one, at least means that you won\u2019t have to wait for two sizeable downloads.<\/p>\n<p>If you buy physical game releases, you can still benefit from preloading titles digitally. While you wait for your disc version to be delivered on day one, you may be able to get game assets and release day patches downloaded and installed. All you need to do is wait for the mail, insert the disc, and play.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Preloading_Upcoming_Game_Pass_Titles\"><\/span>Preloading Upcoming Game Pass Titles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>With the release of the Xbox Series X|S November update in late 2020, Microsoft added the ability to preload certain upcoming Game Pass titles. You\u2019ll know that a game is available for pre-ordering if it appears in the \u201cComing soon\u201d section and gives you the option to \u201cPre-Install\u201d alongside the release date.<\/p>\n<p>It should go without saying that you\u2019ll need to be subscribed to Game Pass in order for this to work. To preload an upcoming title, first, boot up your Xbox console and launch the Game Pass app.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-725161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/coming_soon_game_pass.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Coming Soon to Game Pass\" width=\"650\" height=\"365\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Wait for the app contents to load and scroll down until you get to the \u201cComing soon\u201d section. Select the \u201cShow all\u201d button to see a full list of upcoming games. Select a game, and if you see \u201cPre-Install\u201d where the \u201cDownload\u201d button normally is, you can start downloading it im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely and jump straight in on release day.<\/p>\n<p>You can also do this via the Game Pass app for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/xbox-game-pass\/id1374542474\">iPhone<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.gamepass&amp;hl=en_AU&amp;gl=US\">Android<\/a>. Download it to your device and log in with your Xbox account. On the Home tab, scroll down to the \u201cComing soon\u201d section and select a game. Then, hit \u201cPre-Install To\u201d and select the console that you wish to use.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Preloading_Microsoft_Store_Titles\"><\/span>Preloading Microsoft Store Titles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Microsoft Store on Xbox is pretty unique in that it allows you to download games that you don\u2019t own to a console of your choice. At present, you can only do this via the Xbox app for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/xbox\/id736179781\">iPhone<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.microsoft.xboxone.smartglass&amp;hl=en_AU&amp;gl=US\">Android<\/a> (It\u2019s a different app than the Game Pass one linked above.).<\/p>\n<p>This trick works for most titles on the store, and it applies to many upcoming games as well. Unfortunately, there\u2019s no way to do this directly from the Xbox dashboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-725162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/download_via_xbox_app.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"&quot;Download to Console&quot; using Xbox App for iOS and Android\" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>With the Xbox app installed on your smartphone or tablet, log in with the Xbox account you use on your primary Xbox. Tap on the \u201cSearch\u201d tab at the bottom of the screen and search for the game you would like to preinstall. You can use the \u201cGames\u201d filter to narrow down your search.<\/p>\n<p>Tap on the game that you want to preload, and then hit the \u201cDownload to Console\u201d button. Select the console that you would like the game to download to, followed by \u201cInstall to this Console.\u201d The game will now show up in your download queue.<\/p>\n<p>To view the queue, turn on your Xbox and launch \u201cMy games and apps.\u201d Then, select \u201cManage\u201d in the left-hand sidebar, followed by the \u201cQueue\u201d button. Remember that you will still need a valid license to play the game, so your Xbox will prompt you to purchase the title before you can play it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Happy_Preloading\"><\/span>Happy Preloading!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>On Xbox, digital editions and disc editions are not classed as separate games like they are on PlayStation. This allows you to save time by downloading games before you have the disc in your hands, whether you\u2019re heading out to buy it or borrowing it from a friend.<br \/>\nBe careful not to preload too many games, or you\u2019ll risk running out of space.
