Pressure is building on President Biden to release secret FBI documents showing Saudi Arabia\u2019s alleged complicity in the 9\/11 terror attacks, with families of the victims accusing the\u00a0US government of letting a Middle East ally\u00a0 \u201cget away with the murder of our loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

A\u00a0group of 22 New York and New Jersey federal lawmakers, including lone Republican Nicole Malliotakis and NY Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, sent a letter<\/a> to US Attorney General<\/a> Merrick Garland, challenging the \u201cstate secrets privilege\u201d that ex-Presidents Trump, Obama and Bush invoked to block release of a classified 16-page FBI report.<\/p>\n

Relatives of those killed on 9\/11 or from illnesses triggered by Ground Zero toxins app<\/a>lauded last week\u2019s missive.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter nearly 20 years, it is long past time that the American public learned the extent of Saudi Arabia\u2019s role in 9\/11,\u201d said Brett Eagleson, who was 15 when his father was killed in the South Tower collapse.<\/p>\n

Evidence of Saudi involvement in the terror attack emerged in a\u00a02012 FBI memo as part of its Operation Encore investigation from 2007 to 2016. The\u00a0heavily redacted<\/a> four-page document\u00a0identified three senior Saudi government officials who helped provide two 9\/11 hijackers with living quarters, financial aid, flight lessons and driver\u2019s licenses\u00a0in California \u2014 allegedly knowing they \u201cwere here to commit an act of terrorism.\u201d One of the officials, Musaed Jarrah, was working in the Saudi Embassy in Washington.<\/p>\n

The families, who are suing Saudi Arabia for damages in Manhattan federal court, seek the FBI\u2019s final 16-page report.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re holding onto the juiciest material,\u201d Andrew Maloney, a lawyer for the families, told The Post.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s worse, he said, the agency has shared confidential documents with American lawyers for the alleged Saudi co-conspirators. \u201cThe FBI has actually been helping the Saudis instead of the families. It\u2019s crazy,\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eagleson\u2019s father, Bruce Eagleson, 53, who worked for retail giant Westfield, was in the lobby of the South Tower when he headed upstairs to give walkie talkies to firefighters. The tower collapsed on his way up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brett raised an appeal for the FBI\u00a0reports with President Trump during a ceremony\u00a0at the White House on Sept. 11, 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to help you \u2014 it\u2019s done,\u201d Eagleson said Trump promised him and a half-dozen relatives.<\/p>\n

But the next day, then-US Attorney William Barr cited the \u201cstate secrets privilege\u201d on an executive order to block the release. The Department of Justice later filed court papers insisting that further disclosures on Saudi links to the terror plot would imperil national security.<\/a><\/p>\n

The repressive Saudi regime is a key strategic US ally with a common enemy, Iran. The kingdom also buys billions of dollars in weapons from the US.\u00a0 It has denied collusion on\u00a0 9\/11, though 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unconscionable to think that the FBI is actually helping the Saudis and not doing their due diligence for the families as well as America,\u201d said Tim Frolich, a Fuji Bank employee whose foot was crushed while escaping the dust cloud when when the South Tower collapsed. \u201cThe families are hopeful that the Biden administration will seize the moment to provide the closure we\u2019ve waited way too long to get.\u201d<\/p>\n

In their letter to Garland, the 22 US lawmakers argue the state secrets doctrine is legally flawed,\u00a0and \u201chas frequently been asserted to cover up government misconduct.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malliotakis sent Garland an April 21 letter<\/a>, signed by four fellow GOP Congress members, charging that the\u00a09\/11 victims and injured first responders have been deprived of justice. She demanded an immedia<\/a>te release of the FBI report. <\/p>\n

In addition, more than 2,100 family members signed a March 12 letter <\/a>to President Biden and Garland, alleging the DOJ and FBI \u201chave continually obstructed and impeded\u201d their lawsuit against Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

The letter asks: \u201cDoes the Federal Bureau of Investigation work for the American people or for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden has not yet replied.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
