A Bengal tiger that has been missing for a week in Houston \u2014 and which prompted hundreds of tips about his possible whereabouts \u2014 has been found safe. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe tiger app<\/a>ears to be in very good health,\u201d Houston Police Department Commander Ron Borza said at a news conference late Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 9-month old, 175-pound beast, named \u201cIndia,\u201d was wearing a turquoise, bejeweled collar and being bottle fed<\/a> in a video posted by the HPD, in which Borza and a woman identified as the wife of the tiger owner were seen petting and cuddling with the animal.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, it\u2019s been a long week,\u201d someone says to Borza in the clip.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really has been,\u201d Borza laughed, \u201cbut we got him and he\u2019s healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n

India was spotted out in a neighborhood on May 9 causing some tension with neighbors as he roamed and lounged on front yards. <\/p>\n

By Saturday, a \u201cconcerned citizen\u201d in contact with India\u2019s owner\u2019s wife, identified as Gia, contacted the local animal shelter, Borza said, and helped arranged for India to be turned over to authorities. <\/p>\n

Borza explained he let Gia come along as India was taken to the shelter \u201cbecause of the stress the tiger\u2019s been through the last couple of weeks. He was obviously agitated . . . The animal likes attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t found,\u201d Borza added. \u201cIt was brought to us.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tiger was passed around a little bit, but ultimately Gia knew where the tiger was at all times,\u201d he said. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t with her, she knew where it was at.\u201d<\/p>\n

No charges have been filed, and cops don\u2019t know how the alleged owner, Victor Hugo Cuevas, 26, came into possession of India, Borza said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat, we haven\u2019t gotten into,\u201d Borza said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn no way shape or form should you have an animal like that in your household,\u201d he cautioned, noting they can reach 600 pounds fully grown. \u201cIt still had its claws, and he could do a lot of damage if he decided to. Luckily, he\u2019s very tame.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Sunday, India is slated to go to Cleveland Armory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas, about three hours north of Houston.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be going to a sanctuary tomorrow, where hopefully he\u2019ll live the rest of his life in a very safe environment,\u201d Borza said, adding, \u201cthis thing turned out really well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the public thought it would be easy, to catch a tiger,\u201d Borza mused. \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t at all.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
