\n A conspiracy theory emerged Friday that the Wayfair online store was using the sale of storage cabinets as a cover for child trafficking \u2014 which the home decor company immedia<\/a>tely denounced as false.<\/p>\n

A post on the social media website Reddit noted the high cost of the furniture \u2014 along with the fact that each item was identified by a female name \u2014 as potential evidence of the purported scandal, News<\/a>week reported.<\/p>\n

The prices for the cabinets \u2014 called Alyvia, Neriah, Samiyah and Yaritza \u2014 ranged from $12,699.99 to $14,499.99 each, according to a screenshot posted in the \u201cr\/conspiracy\u201d subreddit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it possible Wayfair involved in Human trafficking with their WFX Utility collection? Or are these just extremely overpriced cabinets? (Note the names of the cabinets) this makes me sick to my stomach if it\u2019s true :(,\u201d user PrincessPeach1987 wrote Thursday.<\/p>\n

The post quickly drew more than 700 comments from the subreddit\u2019s 1.3 million members, including the assertion that \u201csome of the names are missing children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201ci cant access the cabinets anymore, but i remember a cabinet called Samiyah for like 12K, which is also a missing child from this month!\u201d user coffeeismymuse added.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Wayfair said, \u201cThere is, of course, no truth to these claims.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecognizing that the photos and descript<\/a>ions provided by the supplier did not adequately explain the high price point, we have temporarily removed the products from site to rename them and to provide a more in-depth description and photos that accurately depict the product to clarify the price point.\u201d<\/p>\n

In chat conversations with Newsweek, PrincessPeach1987 reportedly said they were \u201cinvolved in a local organization that helps victims of human trafficking\u201d and had become \u201csuspicious most of the time now\u201d as a result.<\/p>\n

PrincessPeach1987 also characterized their initial post as less of a direct accusation and more of an effort to \u201csee if anyone else had more details,\u201d Newsweek said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
