Prior to that, she worked as a trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice for five years, leading and participating in \u201ccomplex white-collar investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the former DOJ attorney\u2019s views on crypto have not been widely reported, she did contribute to a NYDFS report about the July 2020 hack on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, which resulted in many high-profile accounts sending tweets fraudulently promising followers that they would double Bitcoin (BTC) payments sent to a specific address. That report <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dfs.ny.gov\/Twitter_Report\">concluded<\/a> that \u201ccryptocurrency companies had robust programs around cybersecurity, fraud-prevention, and anti-money laundering programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With regulatory authority over many crypto exchanges and firms, the NYDFS has <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved Goldman Sachs-backed crypto custodian BitGo to operate as an independent custodian in New York. The regulator has also\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dfs.ny.gov\/reports_and_publications\/press_releases\/pr202103111\">granted<\/a>\u00a0BitLicenses \u2014 digital currency licenses that allow firms to do business with customers and companies based in the state \u2014 to both global crypto payments processor BitPay and\u00a0institutional cryptocurrency exchange Bakkt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brookes works under Jon Blattmachr, who has been the NYDFS&#8217; virtual currency chief since October 2020.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"law_decoded\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
