\n President Trump was expected to announce as early as Friday night that he would commute Roger Stone\u2019s sentence \u2014 just days before his longtime political adviser was due to report to prison to serve 40 months, Fox News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

Stone is set to report to prison on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He was sentenced in February after being convicted in November 2019 on seven counts of obstruction, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress.<\/p>\n

Stone, however, has app<\/a>ealed his conviction and continues to deny any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

Earlier Friday, Trump hinted that he was considering a presidential pardon for Stone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be looking at it. I think Roger Stone was very unfairly treated, as were many people, and in the meantime Comey and all these guys are walking around, including Biden and Obama, because we caught them spying on my campaign. Who would have believed that one?\u201d the president said as he departed DC for events in Florida, repeating his claim that the former administration was out to get him.<\/p>\n

He was referring to former FBI Director James Comey, former Vice President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

Stone said a day earlier he was \u201cpraying\u201d that Trump would grant him clemency or a pardon.<\/p>\n

Stone told Fox News he had not had any formal contact with the White House on a potential presidential pardon or commutation of his sentence.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019ll be the last person to know. He hates leaks, and he hates to be told what to do. I have instructed my lawyers not to contact the lawyers at the White House,\u201d he told Fox.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president, who I\u2019ve known for 40 years, has an incredible sense of fairness. He is aware that the people trying to destroy Michael Flynn, now trying to destroy me, are the people trying to destroy him.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked whether he hoped the president would offer him clemency, he said, \u201cI\u2019m praying he does\u201d so that he could avoid prison.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
