At last, 14 years after the first movie came out, the\u00a0Enchanted<\/em><\/strong> sequel\u00a0Disenchanted<\/em> <\/strong>has begun production.\u00a0Rock of Ages<\/em>\u00a0filmmaker Adam Shankman<\/strong> is helming the sequel, with original cast members Amy Adams<\/strong>,\u00a0Patrick Dempsey<\/strong>, James Marsden<\/strong>, and Idina Menzel<\/strong> all reprising their roles from the original while Maya Rudolph has joined the cast as well. In the first film, Adams\u2019s Disney princess Giselle stepped out of her animated world into live-action New York City.<\/p>\n

People have been clamoring for a sequel to\u00a0Enchanted<\/em>, a beloved Disney movie that still isn\u2019t on Disney+ for some reason, for over 10 years now. And while there has been plenty of talk about a sequel, things remained elusive. Thankfully, that\u2019s over now, because Disney announced today that production on the sequel, titled\u00a0Disenchanted<\/em>, is finally, officially underway and shooting in Ireland.
\nAdam Shankman (Hairspray<\/em>) is helming the film. Shankman also worked on the script<\/a>, along with\u00a0Brigette Hales<\/strong>, Richard LaGravenese<\/strong>, Scott Neustadte<\/strong>r, and Michael H. Weber<\/strong>.\u00a0Alan Menken<\/strong> and Stephen Schwartz<\/strong>, who wrote songs for the first film, are back for the sequel, and so are cast members\u00a0Amy Adams,\u00a0Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel.<\/p>\n

The sequel finds Adams once again starring \u201cas the hopelessly romantic and eternally optimistic Giselle now married and living in Monroeville; Patrick Dempsey as Giselle\u2019s husband, the cynical pragmatist Robert Philip; James Marsden as the dashing but daft Prince Edward from Andalasia; Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine, the former dressmaker now married to Prince Edward; Maya Rudolph as Malvina, Giselle\u2019s new adversary in Monroeville; Kolton Stewart<\/strong> as Malvina\u2019s son; Yvette Nicole Brown<\/strong> as Rosalyn; Jayma Mays<\/strong> as Ruby; Oscar Nunez<\/strong> as Edgar; and introduces Gabriella Baldacchino<\/strong> as Robert Philip\u2019s now-grown daughter, Morgan. Baldacchino, a 19-year-old from Glen Rock, New Jersey, makes her feature film debut in Disenchanted<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sequel \u201cfeatures the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking again with Disney has been like coming home,\u201d said Adam Shankman. \u201cWith Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen\u2019s mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney\u2019s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nDisenchanted<\/em> will debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2022, and hey, maybe the first movie will be on Disney+ by then, too.<\/p>\n
